Changed a couple of the settings in VCDS today, took the car for a spin and the difference is superb.

Changes made.....

In VCDS Select Control Module, go to 03 ABS Brakes, then 10 Adaptation, go to Channel:

Channel 09 Brake Assist

There are 3 settings for this

0-center (stock setting)

1-small

2-hard

I changed this from the stock 0 setting to 2 and this has made the brake pedal more responsive to smaller inputs. Feels more positive in use, especially under enthusiastic motoring.

Channel 36 XDS

There are 3 settings

0-center (stock setting)

1-weak

2-strong

Again I changed this from 0 to 2 and this one mod alone makes the Polo into a different/better beast under hard driving. It acts almost like my ED30 did with the Quaife and yet doesn't feel as fidgety. Seems more planted around bends and that much better to push through the corner on exit. This mod comes with a five thumbs up...

Also got a chance to look at the log blocks that can be done and FOOK ME there are over 400 of them for the Polo GTI!!!!!

Annoyingly the measuring blocks all have different units of measurement and so for me to fully understand them I've had to wikipedia all the conversions to allow me to see what is what.

As I haven't got the water/meth running at the moment (no meth left!!) I thought I'd get stage 2 logs up and after faffing with conversions got the following.....

Block 201 - engine torque - max 350.1nm = 259lbft @ 3497rpm

Block 196 - Mass flow through throttle valve - 691.7kg/s = 192.2g/s = through the 0.81 division approx 237.2bhp

Typical schoolboy error was not pressing the turbo button and only getting a sample every 2 seconds so may have missed peak mass flow and engine torque alltogether!!

Just finished fitting this today. Took 20mins total. Bonus for anyone not wanting to screw it in is that you can order them with no holes. Also you can specify the letters. TDI, GTI etc.

Added some red tape behind the GTI to mine for added effect.

Naaah.

Last 6 cars I've had all had the third pedal missing. :-)

It is a 9n3 design footrest. One of the guys I know on the MK5golfgti forum sent it me to see if it fitted a 6R Polo.....and it did. 8-)

A little update...

The car is finally booked in to have the Loba turbo, uprated Pace intercooler and radiator and Decat pipe fitted next Thursday

Should add a few ponies under the bonnet!

Have you thought about wrapping the rear VW badge? I was considering doing it but it could be a bit tricky since it can't be removed!

  • Author

Yes I've thought about this, but it is a bit trickier to get a good finish as like you say, you cannot remove the badge easily.

It can be removed, but the damage caused may outweigh the benefit.

The turbo is on and the extra power is showing.

0-60 is now 4.9 seconds and the 0-100mph dash is 12.3 seconds. Bodes well as the car still ru s the stage 2 software and not a hybrid specific map.

I guest mate power is around 250-260 bhp and mapping should make over 270bhp. 8-)

now, thats just silly. lol

Amazing progress mate! Must be an awesome drive!

Post some pics dude!

Not updated for a while.

The car now has the extra cooling precautions fitted in the shape of Pace development intercooler and radiator upgrades.

The intercooler is 36% larger and the radiator is 78% larger than their OEM equivalents.

Also went on the 30-130 day at RAF Marham. This event is mainly for big bhp cars, but I decided to see how the little Polo would cope. The idea is to run up the airstrip and post as fast a time as you can from 30mph to 130mph with every run gps timed to 0.01 of a second. The airstrip is slightly uphill all the way and the available strip is 1.2 miles long before having to brake.

The Polo did it in 24.04 seconds and posted a max speed of 142.94mph. It may not sound too fast, but there were a few Focus RS MKII's which could only manage 29+ seconds, so not too bad for the Polo. 8-)

Was following you into Fast Show mate, I was in the Dragon Green 6N with the Diamond Cut D90's, the Polo looked sweet. Looked nice up and down the strip aswell buddy.
