Hurdy's 6R Polo GTI

Yes I've thought about this, but it is a bit trickier to get a good finish as like you say, you cannot remove the badge easily.

It can be removed, but the damage caused may outweigh the benefit.

Did mine the other day and just thought I'd let you know it's pretty easy to remove the badge without doing any damage to the car what so ever!

Been a bit lax in keeping this thread up to date

Went to Elsecar mega meet and cleaned the car and then finished with the DA polisher followed by a good waxing and the result was this.....

Thanks to the guys who took these shots as I only had my crappy phone with me.

Also recently tried some VCDS setting alterations and ramped up all the settings on the map and WMI mix to try and get a decent run after altering the settings. Warmer weather and clean, dry roads after the rain along with a few hard previous runs to warm the tyres up resulted in the following (all done at the same spot as previous runs)

0-100mph in 11.8 seconds off a decent 5.1 to 60mph, so running the richer mix with setting C and setting off with traction control on in S mode seems to be the way to go for a 1/4 mile run and resulted in the following...........

IMAG0343.jpg

Clearly a better top end power with a 107.2mph terminal, but still only a 13.5  *note to self - must try harder!*

as you can see by the G-Force, the pull is strong too!

These are the best runs and several were hampered with the dreaded DSG torque limiter  , so still need that DSG remap sooner rather than later.

The good sign is that there were no faults came up on VCDS after the runs, the bad sign is that I appear to be running out of front tread on the tyres. :-p

Still quite a bit to do. The power is hampered by the OEM DSG software which has a torque limiter that cuts the throttle ove 350nm ( which I am on the higher setting ) so a DSG remap is needed but no-one does one yet. Then the DSG clutch packs struggle and give a little slip under hard acceleration, so uprated DSG clutch packs are needed. Once these are done the Revo stage 2 map will be altered to a hybrid turbo map that makes the most of the uprated turbo. After this the front arches can be pulled and rolled to accept wider alloys and some 235 Toyo R888 rubber.

All this should give much higher performance than I have now. 8-)

Damn, wish my car came up as shiny as that!

Looked good at elsecar bro

swear you where asleep in it at one point when i walked past :p

Ordered some Okada Plasma plugs last week and should help the car overall with a bit more power and stronger spark.

  • Author

The Okada plasma coilpacks finally arrived

What can I say apart from they do exactly what it says on the tin.

Fitted these today and my word they make a difference.

i. Smoother idle

ii. much perkier at the top of the rev range

Okada quote the following for these coilpacks....

i. Up to 6% more hp

ii. Up to 6% more torque

iii. Faster spool up/throttle response

iv. Reduced fuel consumption

v. Lower emissions

vi. smoother idle

Also in the 1.4TSI they help eliminate potential misfires too by giving a much stronger spark that simply cannot be overwhelmed by the injectors.

I fitted them myself in 15 mins and they just work!

I'll be swapping back to the stock coilpacks at some point for back to back dyno runs to see if they do give any extra oomph, but the car certainly feels better and it isn't just the "bum dyno"

They aren't cheap though, but for me they are worth every penny.

Apparently these make 6bhp/lbft gains on a stock MKIV GTI Turbo 150 (petrol), so the butt dyno may not be wrong as the water methanol injection needs extra ignition to get the best burn, so should give the little GTI more boooooooooosssstt!

one day I'm gonna steal your engine :ninja:

Went to GTI International today, very wet, very busy and as soon as it stopped raining I used my 4 run passes down the strip.

Best time of the morning was 14.02 with a 5.49 second 0-60. Not as good as I'd hoped, but the surface was very wet and add to that the DSG torque limiter cutting in, it wasn't too bad.

I must say that I enjoyed the handling course more than the sprint. Ended up with a 40.07 second run. The guy on the stand taking down the time told me beforehand that anywhere near to 40 seconds was excellent. The guys on the stand with track prepped cars and racing tyres were managing 39.6 to 39.7, so I was well impressed with the car. However, the guy from Bilstein said if I had set the car up on full hard with the damping then the car would have been just as good as the track cars!!

Bodes well for the next trackday. 8-)

it's really easy! In fact if you're just gonna carbon wrap the chrome section you don't even need to go through the hassle of taking the whole handle out, take a really small flat head and work your way around the outside of the chrome section and you can just pop it right off without snapping any of the clips :)

I'll be trying that tomorrow then. 8-)

It appears you have missed going up the jump ramp. Points will be deducted!

Seriously, looks really nice now, I have no idea why you would want shiny show wheels on it, it looks awesome as it is.

saw you at GTi International!

We joined in your race with that mk5 golf on the way home. We were in the red ibiza that was on its arse

Anyway......... I got a phone all today from Eibach HQ, turns out that me and the little Polo only went and got the 3rd fastest time of the weekend on the handling course.

Won a £200 voucher so I've ordered the front ARB  8-)

So next month I'll be in the VW Driver magazine twice!

Statllers, who do the tuning work on my car did well, Fastest 2 Porsches of the weekend, fastest RS6 and 2nd fastest MKV on the strip and mine on the handling course.
