so the big day finally arrived yesterday when, i took the ratrods heart out and donated it to the coupe. After a days work we decided to drag the two cars to the unit and have an all nighter, unfortunately we came across a few obstacles but wasnt going to let them phase us.

so we started stripping the loom out and disconnecting everything, made sure i labelled everything as i know how and where it goes in the coupe, got the engine free after wrestling with what can only be described as a stainless steel snake (the manifold to rear exhaust!!)

i then had to set about grinding the edge off the arb carrier so it wouldnt foul the alternater belt, with that done and half the coupe front stripped we decided to chuck the new front suspension on, we had some fun and games getting the caps that hold the dampers down, but got them off after abit of grinding and hammering.

so yould think straight forward to put it all back together right :/ the shocks wouldnt fit into the sleeves so had to get the big press on it and press them in, everything after that went smoothly, got the wheels all back on and most importantly where a 8v gt engine sat there now sits a 16v :D

now its time to start the exciting job of wirig and connecting everything back up, also going to have to book into the exhaust shop to have a down pipe fabricated :)

hope you enjoy the pics

had another bash at the polo today.

fitted rear suspension and stripped interior ready for the golf gti interior i have to be fitted. pulled the front carpets up to find solid floors which I'm very pleased about :)

and started to to take dash apart to wire in part of the loom i got with my donor engine... and thats where I've hit the wall :/ wiring and myself have never went together, i forgot to pick my haynes manual up when i finished today as need to read up on which wires are which to try find out how to wire it in.

going to crack on with the engine bay wiring until i get my head around the inside loom.

has any body else wired there 16v with the donor vehicles fusebox and key? as pictured down below

Spent most of last night reading up on wiring up this backbox for the 16v conversion and still came up with a big fat nothing:( need serious help with this if anybody else has wired one in can you pm me and help me out please :)

It looks like he's done it the same way I do but a little more pikey (if that's possible  ). Have you got the 6n fusebox? The plugs on this wiring will only go into certain terminals on the fuse box so its pretty much impossible to put them in the wrong place. What it it looks like he's done is take a switched live from the mk3 polo light switch (or what ever that switch the live is going to is) and used this to power the immobiliser which is why you have part 6n loom and part mk2f loom in that picture. I can't see how he's providing a switched live for the 6n fuse box tho, where there no wires going from the loons ignition to the 6n fuse box?

The plug with the long black protective wrapping on it looks like the fuel pump wiring. realistically you will only need the live from this to go to the live on your fuel pump, the earth and fuel gauge wire (think its some thing like a purple colour) will be fine left wired in as they are now, just cut the live going to the pump and connect the live from this plug to it (think they are both red/yellow on both the car and the new wiring).

If you get stuck with working out which 6n wires do what I found this very helpful http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=219775

The polo isn't listed but the mk3 golf ce2 wiring is close enough to get a good idea of which plugs and wiring on the fusebox do what

this was all the wiring that was under the dash :/ hope i never missed any thing, only got the immobiliser box and key and wiring that was spliced into all the light power sources.

thanks for the help that link will come in handy hopefully might have someone come and help wire it up, need to crack on getting engine bay reconnected for now and stop worrying over the internal wires.

Was there a second fuse box stuffed anywhere with some of this wiring plugged into it? Was the car running when you got it? Also was some of the engine wiring not plugged plugged into a second fuse box? (sorry about all the questions)

This wiring still seems to have the ce2 plugs on it so I can only assume that they were wired it to a second fuse box :?

Tbf tho you have the important bits of the interior wiring there, the rest could be pulled off pretty much any early to mid 90's vw as most of them use ce2 wiring like this. The main thing is that you have the immobiliser setup that matched to your ecu, any thing else can be mixed and matched

Not sure if there was a second fuse box hidden else where. The donor vehicle has gone now aswell it was running before I took the engine out, the engine wires go straight to the loom and too the fuse box looks like he used the orginal loom that came with the engine.

It's confused me to high heavens :/

So I thought I'd have a day doing stuff on the car and started wiring the engine bay up to find my accellerater cable don't reach have I got to use the 16v cable? Also the clutch cable seems abit funny :(

Other than these and the interior wiring things seem to be going ok, wanna get this on the road ASAP.

If I was to bike carb the afh would I get rid of the headache of my wiring issue? What would I not need I.e 6n immobiliser and wiring?

Any help would be great, been reading a lil bit but wiring just confuses me full stop

So been doing little bits each week on this project now,

Got my drive shafts in and all wiring to back of engine, ordered aload of parts consisting

Of 6jj wheels to make a staggered set, already sold the spare set :) got a ignition setup on its way and some 600cc carbs just need to sort the manifold out now.

Gunna order a mk1 top fill rad so I can get rid of the over flow bottle and get a slim line fan to get it to fit nice,

Then it should just be the wiring inside and should have a working mk2 again

Il try upload some pics of the progress so far.

Slowly but surely getting there :)

A quick question is if the egr valve? Can I just block that off at both ends?

having racked my brains about this wiring for sooo long and nearly gave up completely with the project, I've asked a local garage to help with wiring, so gunna get everything else sorted, and hopefully get this in the garage and get it running asap

then hopefully all my parts start coming together for the bike carb conversion
