Strange Tap/Banging When Sharp Turning

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help with this.

Had my 57 Plate GTI for just over 2 years now. No problems and no Crashes (So no chance of something being bent etc....)

I left my car at my parents last weekend when i went away. The day i left it there everything was ok.

The sunday night when i picked it up. When i turn left or right sharply.....i mean sharply. I get a rather loud banging/tapping sound which appears to be coming from under the dash (drivers side).

Iv checked the obvious places....No bushing are going. No movement or play on drive shaft or any bushings or steering column.

Checked under the dash and again, no movement from anything including the steering column.

I have managed to hear it once when i went over a large pot hole doing about 15MPH. So i dont think it has anything to do with steering.

The car feels perfectly fine. No different what so ever. So not sure if its machanical or just interior trim or something. It was MOT by VW Bath about 2 months ago too, and they didnt say anything was on its way out etc (i.e bushings).

Its really puzzling. But it happens every time when turning at just little faster than one might consider to be normal.

Normal driving conditions everythings ok. Only when you give it that little emph when turning.

Anyone have any ideas??

EDIT: I had the keys so no one else (family) went out in it whilst i was away :)

Thanks in advance.
