How much was you after for the stage 2 then?

Don't know. It's obviously well used but the thing's rock solid - what would be a reasonable price?

Not a lot happening as parents have been moving house, towed my car there yesterday, can continue when they have finished unpacking and stuff.

In the mean time, I have been working on the dashboard - I will be smoothing it out to remove the texture, making it shorter and ultimately making a carbon fibre copy of it.

Also, I fucked up the drivers side wing - because none of the arches were obvious as to which corner went where, the two fronts didn't match. ripped it off and selected the correct one.

Just awaiting the body filler then I can get smoothing.

So, I kinda shot myself in the foot, was hoping to be all "yeah I've done this much" and then unveil my awesome newly mounted engine, but as always time runs away from you and I'm still going slow.

I'll be brief as I'm writing this for the second time.

Spare wheel well is gone:

tumblr_mvuwqcK3cv1stb25co1_1280.jpg

Also stripped out the roof lining and whatnot, I will eventually have the lining replaced with carbon fibre and the sunroof controls moved to the dash (excuse the glitchy panorama):

1457612_10151975628772270_843705020_n.jp

through plenty of Google.de and hours of searching, found a nice stash of photos to compare how the Germans have put in a 1.8 t (fuck paying a grand for a dodgy looking salzmann kit)

Lopped the front end off:

946056_10202419701680899_928055765_n.jpg

Cut up the chassis arm, as the 1.8 t will require golf mk1 engine mounts.

tumblr_mxid16lUqX1stb25co1_1280.jpg

Heres a comparison to a German car I found online:

tumblr_mvuyg7PQy21stb25co1_1280.jpg

Started roughing out the shapes to fabricate:

tumblr_mxid2fS9UM1stb25co1_1280.jpg

Used dad's new plasma cutter with 3mm mild steel (badass little thing, cut out the shapes in less than 5 minutes)

tumblr_mxid44Qe471stb25co1_1280.jpg

Partly welded into place as I ran out of daylight, but will be getting thicker steel for the mounts, then will starting on the passenger side.

tumblr_mxid7bzrCF1stb25co1_1280.jpg

Strengthening will be through a roll cage and subframe similar to the PPP stage three (although I will be wider to compensate for the sump) and I'm hoping to integrate an adjustable anti roll bar. The front beam is going to be replaced with a bolt in removable cross member and the front panel will also be removable for access.

Aims for christmas/new year:

- Suspension turrets are going to be replaced to accommodate mk1 golf camber plates and coilovers

- Passenger side chassis rail will be modified to accommodate the mk1 golf mounts

- cross member brace will be made

- engine mounted

OH YEAH

- No more lies about my progress! It's just going to be a slow project I've come to accept :(

Unfortunately not a lot as I've just come out of surgery! got some pretty wicked scars though

Anyways, with the car:

Lopped off the back arch as it's going to be converted to round arches

been mocking up the finished result (it's nice to dream haha)

Cut up the passenger side chassis rail, getting ready for the new mount to be made and welded in:

Managed to source the engine mounts, just saving up for them, so hopefully the engine will be in soon!

Shit man! That scars rad though dude, playing the sympathy card with the females? ;) haha. Love the mocks you have done, for a second I actually thought they were real :| realllly can't wait for more updates, sad about the rear aches though :(

Cheers dude. So far seems to be the mockup capturing people's hearts, so it's what I'm aiming for.

Great news, because of surgery I'm under supervision of my parents for the next month which means I'm at there place. So everyday from now on I have access to welders, plasma cutters and all things dangerous :) So hopefully, expect some more rapid updates.

Oh, and for shits and giggles. something a bit more lairy...

haha excellent! that frontend better be done soon so you can make me one! hahaha

Hahaha, good things come to those who wait ;)

In the mean time, I've been working out my wheel calculations. Looking at minilite wheels, 13x8j at the front and 13x9j at the rears. Offset calculator online put out some interesting results. The tyres are going to be Kumho V70, as they are the only ones with the sizes I want. And to be honest, they are so wide I doubt grip will be an issue... Originals are left, aftermarket are right

fronts:

Rears:

The rears will apparently stick out 3.8" farther lol. Hope these arches will cover them!
