Finally got my hands on a starter motor yesterday. Pretty excited now, it's the last thing I need to get her ticking over! :-)

Bit of a setback...turns out I have the wrong starter motor.

It bolts in perfectly, but the pinion doesn't come out far enough to engage the flywheel when it turns. Trying to get sorted with another one as we speak.

Right, so I got another starter (the right one this time ).

It worked fine, the engine turned, but wouldn't fire up. There didn't seem to be any petrol getting into the cylinders...

Had quick look around the bay and found a crack in the rubber moulding where the carb meets the inlet manifold, and the petrol was just seeping out.

The carb is a Pierburg 1B3. 20 seconds of research tells me that they're rubbish and the Webers are way better, but I'm on a tight budget...so does anyone know where I can get one of these weird rubber gasket mouldings that fixes it to the inlet manifold?

Any links/pictures/advice appreciated.

IRRC you can get them from the likes of eurocarparts etc? (not 100% though)

Update:

This project was put on the back burner last year due to a serious lack of time and money. Then, due to exams and an ongoing illness, the "back burner" unfortunately got turned off for a while.

Good news is yesterday I finally got an expert to take a look under the bonnet. And after messing around with leads and timing and stuff for about an hour, we finally got it going. Delighted :-D (Cheers Nick!)

Hopefully back on track now. Expect more updates soon! :-)
