Going to reap the breaker's yard for what it's worth this weekend.

The shopping list:

1.3 throttle body (and possibly inlet manifold + injector if they're cheap)

MK3 Golf elbow joint, along with other potential air ducting

And an alloy rocker cover, so it looks lovely and shiny.

Quick question though:

Will i need to fit a breather pipe to a 6N rocker cover in order to run it on mine? I know there's a breather on the AAU but i'm not sure if it's necessary or not to run one since the 6N doesn't?

a 6n rocker cover will need a breather tapped into it, or i know of people who just blocked the breather and had no problems.

i would suggest considering left rear light from a left hand drive polo ( german polo) really tidy lil mod

and some retro fit aero wipers, they make such a differance to clearing windscreen

And a huge ass trailer! Which, to be honest, is somewhat bigger than what i need!

Oh and i replaced the rear wheel bearings, so much quieter!

Cut the bumper to suit the towbar yesterday.

Fortunately you could never tell it was cut and it all fits quite well.

And if i ever need to I can drop the towbar off with ease. So it may go to DubShed for a laugh!

A bit of time was spent underneath the car tonight, just inspecting and cleaning. Apart from a LOT of dirt, things to mention include a blown shock (Always wondered about the handling) and a worn ARB bushing.

The shock (and horror)

You can see the grooves on the stanction/piston/slider. No seal to speak of, and no oil either would you believe.

And the ARB mount:

We can see a little bit of play around the outside..

And a few spots of rust saw some attention.... That is all. :-D

Lens repair tape is a neat trick. Wont work on my lights though, as i have the Tinted indicator and reverse lenses

Why would tinted lights make a difference? Get yer tape out!

This weekend saw my first outing on the 125.

Probably 20 mile journey each way, and the car held up great, towing a trailer and bike, with tools, spares, fuel, and all the gear in the back!

A good day out.

The setup:

Well this car has been serving me well, lots of racing at weekends and the usual running about inbetween times.

Now it's time for MOT.

So, a blown front shock was sorted out by a pair of front shocks from Shane. ('mk3 po low' on here)

Recently i broke the handbrake cable too, so I got a new one and sorted that out.

Under the wheel arches have been cleaned up too.

Other goings on include an oil and filter change.

The drum being taken apart to pull out the old cable.

And under the front driver's side wheel arch. All clean!

If all goes well at MOT I have some LaminX for the headlights.

Well, it's through MOT alright, I stuck on the LaminX at night time thinking it was unbelievable, then the next day I pulled it straight off, was horrible!

So today I have the RZs cleaned up, I'm wondering what I should do with them?

To paint or not, If so what colour? Or leave well alone?

Ah yes, the old sidestrip glue.. How I wish I left that side strip on!

I wonder if I could take a grinder to the coils of my spring, when the spring is still in place?

So, I have been looking in to dropping my front end, but the sad reality is that I don't have the experience to pull it apart and I don't have the spring pullers to take the strut apart.. SO, anyone wanna help me? I'm handy with a kettle. :)

Right, so I did a bit of work this weekend, pulled some bikes out of the garage and got the car in...

4 or 5 hours later, she rolls out with her front end 40mm/Two coils lower.

It is far from low by any means, but at least the reverse rake is gone. And whenever I carry passengers/tow bikes, she'll be nice and even!

In the garage: First time a four wheeler has ever been in there!

And here she is, still needs cleaned but that's today's job.

The Cut-down standard springs work well with the uprated shocks, firm but comfortable! I'm really happy :)

Maybe it'll be a touch lower when everything has settled down

Yep, just as expected... Having been driven about today, the front end has settled more, so I may have to put some lower, harder springs in the rear which will cope with loading (sometimes the car even takes three people, my leathers and gear, all the fuel, and of course the trailer with the 125!

Probably just gonna keep standard shocks, so what springs do people recommend? there's practically no front arch gap the way it is now, whilst the rear is at standard height! Fuckin mega rake!

Liking the look of this mate keeping it nice and simple! Couldn't resist lowering it slightly though ay haha i don't blame you they're well high standard, you can lower it a tiny bit and still be practical!

Did you find your engine bits in the scrappy aswell? The post you mention it in is from january but i haven't clocked this thread til now for some reason cos the 6n rocker cover is fine without the hose attached, good cheap mod imo they look 10x better then Mk3 ones!

Yeah, I just couldn't hack looking at it anymore. Reverse rake unloaded, mega reverse rake when loaded... Horrible!

The only thing with 30mm springs i'm thinking of is, they'll be slightly lower, but not hard enough, causing the rear of the car to bottom out when under load.

Unfortunately, whenever I went to the scrappys I couldn't find any mk3 golf elbows or 1.3 throttle bodies.

I haven't been since because I haven't the disposable income to spend on the car, what with racing of bikes! :) I will have an alloy rocker cover though, I am an actual magpie.

NO...! Oh fuck, that 'StyleStripe' stuff I got.. everything seemed well until I realised it actually wasn't sticking to my bumpers at all. It sticks to paint but not plastic! Well, maybe it does for you, in that case good luck.

Hm.. maybe just leave the suspension as it is then it looks alright tbh and like you've said, it's sky high for a purpose!

Although i had 5 people in my 1.0l before with no clearance issues down 40mm on the rear. Well no tyre scrub anyway, obviously you can't get over any speedbumps!

Decent springs will stiften it up enough i reckon, but i think with your wheels and tyres you'd still have some issues.. so in conclusion.. i say just leave it

The golf elbows are a bit of a idiot to find, whack a boyzy ripspeed cone filter from halfords on it like i did you'll have a nice burble haha!

I bought a 1.3 throttle body a couple years ago cos my engine was revving on it's own and i thought it may fix it, but it turned out to be something else and i never fitted it, so if you ever want that let me know!

And with the pinstripe, i don't know what you're doing wrong but its the same stuff i used on the blue one and it's never come off. Did you clean the bumper before sticking it to it?

I probably did clean the bumpers.. Don't know, can't remember now. :)

The only thing about just whacking an air filter on is.. what about the likes of the crankcase breather pipe? And also the air temp control pipes?

Not much of an update,

The car has been under serious use, taking me racing south of Dublin, and all the northern tracks.

Recently my exhaust decided to break where the main pipe enters the back box, consequently the centre of the exhaust was scraping along the ground.

After a lot of thinking, I decided to pull the backbox off.

Which of course ended up with the end can off my Granda's CBR600 jubilee clipped on instead.

For a temporary measure, she'll do.

It doesn't sound amazing like I was expecting, but it's louder than the standard back box and gives a deeper sound. Not terrible raspy hehee

Little update, got some work done.

Braking was beginning to require a wrestling match with the steering wheel, so I ordered new discs and pads. £50 posted for EBC brakes was not too bad at all!

So whilst around the front end of the car, the bumper came off and got a couple of coats of gloss black. It worked so well I'm going to do the rest of the plastic trim around the car to match! Very happy with how this turned the car around. Getting more paint on the way home.
