I like how you have modified the car how you want and not gave in to the usual "slam it" Personally I would of upgraded to vw11 at the same time, it didnt cost me much more to get the second hand calipers and the disks and pads were around the same price!

You have a point, I would have done this but to be fair I don't need any more performance out of the brakes, they're completely dead on as is.

And with the VWI discs being solid as opposed to the VWII being ventilated I'm pretty sure there was a serious step up in price for the more modern brakes.

Thanks man! There are times when I think, yeah this car could go lower, but it is a workhorse! Long distances (Newtownards...Dublin etc) with a trailer are difficult enough work with reasonable suspension travel as it is.

I have a plan for some nice wheels too. Hopefully a set of G60s.

It cost me around 55-60 for mintex pads and vented disks I think, was a few months ago, so only a couple of quid in it. Will look nice with a set of g60s on the car!

Yeah, I think so! The smaller the wheels the lower I have to go, so 15" wheels with low pro tyres and a 40 mm drop should look rad!

Engine bay update

Yeah so this weekend I got some work done, been wanting to get these two things underway for ages but could never find the parts in the breakers.

But this time was different! Found myself a 6n rocker cover, and a mk3 golf elbow joint (even managed to be the right one!)

This is how the engine bay is configured at the minute (yes, completely standard but clean enough :) )

So, I got to work with fitting the elbow joint. 1st was to extract the studs. At first I thought, yeah lets go for the mole grips, but I wanted to keep the studs usable! So, incase you ever need to extract a stud, here's a handy little tip!

use two nuts on the stud. Tighten them together really tight so that they act like the head of a bolt, and use the lower bolt to loosen the stud from the injector plate.

Then fortunately I had some bolts lying about from old crankcases from the racing bike which actually were the right length so on they went.

After this was fitted, I made a start on the rocker cover. But this concludes today's work.

Not anywhere near finished yet, that's only the 240 grade paper!

Fitted the rocker cover and the elbow joint, still need an air filter and that'll be me happy with the engine bay.

Actually very very happy with the finish of this considering the time I put in and my lack of experience.

Oh aye, and I got new wheels, yes you're right, G60 Steels! Unfortunately without centre caps, but not for long.

Whole car needs a clean but hey, did you see that rain? I have an excuse fs.

Now happy with the bay.

Next on the list, Genesis/GT/G40 Clocks, other ICE and sort out my sunroof leak.

you are going to need a breather pipe on that rocker cover i think, where is the pipe going at the moment now you've taken it off?

The pipe has merely been blanked off using an M8 bolt and a spring clip around it. BUT, sice I have owned the car, the breather pipe has been perished and split, so I didn't think it would be all that important. What does the breather pipe run from? Because the crankcase breather is running to the airbox, so what breather is this?

Oh yeah and it does, needs dropped on 13s, but I just can't.

Hopefully I'll bring it down a little at the rear then I'll be happy with how it sits.

looking good buddy ! you got 15s in the steels ? i have seen 14s b4, i had 15s G60s on my polo before it was lowered and the suspension kept bouncing and scraping on the tyres. Might get me a momo wheel, just dont know yet ..

Yeah these are 15" :) They have 195/45 tyres though, which are fairly low profile. No arch rubbing or scrubbing unless I hit speedbumps flat out

See being honest, I wouldn't bother with a Momo wheel. Yeah it's on now and I wouldn't exactly be going about taking it off, because I do like it, but I don't know if it was worth the effort of finding one, with the correct boss, paying the money, going to fit it to realise it's not a straight fit.... Having to find pullers to pull off the adapter... having to take the steering column cowling off to get enough room for the pullers.... Fuck me it just went on and on. I learnt a lot though! (to not fix what isn't broken)

Yer I can see what your getting at , however my brother has a spare for me and the boss that fits , tempting lol. Will put pictures on my thread to see what opinions come my way :-)

Took the car into the garage the other day with the intention of finally sorting out my sunroof.

It was quite a tight squeeze.

Pulled the front seats out to give me room to stand inside the car, and gave it a good hoovering while I was at it.

Oh and, no I didn't fix the sunroof. Not enough sealant.

I'm absolutely gutted, but it looks like I'm going to have to sell this... Need a van for the short circuit racing... :(

If anyone is genuinely interested they can come and see it, I have no idea what sort of price i'm looking for yet though.

The little 125 was dead on with the trailer, espescially for short journeys....

But this big brute of a 650 I have for next year.. Well lets just say it tows it but you can't really bring any passengers, and if i was to head to dublin for a saturday I'd best be leaving on the thursday... LOL
