Approximate location: Manchester

Current state: (on the road/short term off road/long term off road/scrapped)

Off the road at the minute after breaking something engine wise toying with an S3

History (If known):

One of the earliest 1300 Sport coupes in the country registered in February 1985, purchased for £5299.

It was specified with optional rubber side strips with Polo text.

Was bought in Wimbledon and was sold on to live in Wales for several years. Owned by a pair of brothers, the car was laid up for several years after one of the brothers bought a Mk1 Golf GTI.

I purchased the car from Brecon, drove it 174 miles to an MOT station as was greeted with a 3 page 40 item list of fail, 1 month later it was on the road for its first outing in 5 years, at VW NW show at Tatton Park.

Since then it has seen the following

HK was fitted with a Weber 32/34 DTML

Converted to Electronic Ignition

Fitted with 2 1.4 16v units on Bike carbs (both broke)

Fitted with a 1.6 AEE on Bike carbs (broke diff)

Fitted with a 1.6 16v hybrid units on Bike carbs (broke both)

Converted to a G40 and taken 4 thousand miles around Europe!

Modifications (if any):

Heavily modified, see links section for build thread and full spec.

Hi everybody,

Yes...it was me that bought the car from Ebay (a copy of the advert is below I think and I didn't pay the £2500 he was asking for it !!)

Anyway...my family all think I am nuts but I always said that if a rallye yellow coupe s came up then I would have to buy it.

I pretty much looked on Ebay every week for 5 years but NEVER saw ONE single car in rallye yellow.

My parents owned one and it was the first car I drove after passing my test..there should be a picture of the car in 1985 (B522 WES)

So...I couldn't believe it when I saw the ad in May on Ebay.

After a week of negotiation, Frank (really nice chap) sold it to me and I arranged the car to be collected and transported up to where I live (in Fife, Scotland)

I have done a fair bit of work to it, namely 4 new tyres, and a set of the tarantula alloys ( these were the factory optional alloys at the time and it's all I wanted on the car when my Mum bought it new in 1985 but despite my pleas, she didn't see the benefit of the alloys !!!)

I work for a VW retailer and manged to get one of the technicians to service it.

The fuel guage seems a but temperamental but seems to be working after I filled it with fuel and there a few dings and dents to get sorted and also I need to get the idling looked at as the car runs at 2000 rpm until fully warmed.

Couldnt seem to find a panasonic or blaupunkt radio (the head unit was an option at the time but the car came with speakers and an aerial) that would have been similar to a 1985 unit but I fitted a unit which seems to work fine.

BUT....I get a big kick every time I look at the car and on the few times I have taken her out...people stop and stare...

I have a funny story if anone is interested about the car being seen in the street.

Anyway....let me know what u all think

Thats the one I told you about many moons ago. Before Imperial updated the design of their website, that picture carried a reg plate. I ran it through DVLA and found it died sometime around 2003.

I'd say so. Very Rare to see this colour on a bready. Looks like lemon yellow from the outside as is faded, but definately Rallye yellow under the bonnet. I'd say that was beyond saving though with that rot under the rear window and who knows what else is hiding :-( and what are they smoking with that price. Its worth £150 as it is. Tops.

Yes i did chuckle at the price! It would be worth saving if you could do it yourself, but not in terms of money at the end of the day. My breadys got the same rot under the rear window but on the otherside, but i've got a NOS vw rear quarter to sort that though.

Theres a few strange things with the ad, it says its left hand drive (i wondered if it was an import which could explain the colour), but then looking under the bonnet it looks all right hand drive to me, its says it has power steering too which has to be wrong! I guess thats just an unsure seller.

The rear Hounds tooth bench is in good nick though, if the front seats are the same they'd be worth having, there might be afew other good spares too. Not for £500 though!

Too early for Rallye yellow if memory serves. It's Lemon yellow.
