Id personaly consentrate on power and tyres now, The slalom course wont be particularly hard, going by pods previous efforts.

Hell i came 1 and 2nd on consecutive years doing the same style course at pod, all this with 75bhp and lowered springs. :thumbsup:

If you can get a picture of the slalom track, see if it has got many 360degree turns, id look at giving the car more steering lock side to side.

Hoping that after the engine is built I'll have enough budget left for some G60 steels, Cut slicks and some budget coilies, should be enough left anyway!

Wouldnt some alloy wheels be lighter than the G60 steels? Would think that would help as you would have less rotational mass so would make it go a bit better.

Just waiting on my coilies to turn up, they were £175 from PhilJ on here.

Best part... it was freeeee!!! (In return for a sticker on the back of the car advertising the breakers!)

Shortened the inlet down to take the carbs too. Kyle is donating some Silicon pipe work to combine the too!

ABA cam from eBay?

From what I have been told the AGG was the detuned version of the ABA.

Exactly the same (bar where the torque comes)... looking at that I'd say they were just to two different management set ups?? Which I'm not running anyway so no issues there!

The carbs are going to hugely alter the torque curve anyway.

Hoping after all the rebuild bits I'll have enough budget left for a newman cam anyway :)

I assume from reading this that the 'loons have tall block engines rather than the hatchback short blocks? otherwise id be highly tempted to try get mine running on one of these engines...

Mine is a tall block 100bhp 1.6, some had the short block 75bhp 1.6 though.

AFAIK most of the classics and variants you will see about are the big block engines, with the possible exception of the 1.4s (not 100% certain tho). The diesel ones are all big blocks (TDI won't fit in a 6n bay apparently).

I think the less powerful small block versions weren't that popular. Not surprising as it wouldn't have been much more expensive to get the ore powerful versions.

Theres a 1.6 loon at my local breakers with the small block, the engine just looks lost in there!!

Wasn't a bad guess at where to cut the fanimold!!

Ha, so there is at least one person who thought a 75bhp engine would be enough. Nutter.

Good job with the Manifold though, that looks really neatly done! I cant do that to mine as its a moster plastic jobby!

id grind the exit ports on the inlet mani to a nice curved shape, as engine vibrations and engine rocking will chew through the rubbers fairly quickly, looking good anyway mate :thumbsup:

Yeah the current manifold chop was just a guess, I'm shortening it another inch off it as well as porting it out a bit... bring on the dremmel!!

Anyway, picking up the AGG block tomorrow, hopefully sorted a piper 285 cam and a rear disc conversion off an Ibiza too :)

Ha, I actually am trying to nick the side exit idea for my variant and just run it with the centre silencer. Did you leave yours on and just run a section of pipe from it to the edge of the bodyshell?

Rear disk conversion sounds like a good idea too. I might even up trying to do a slightly more expensive build for mine!

Ross - I've smashed the car out, left just the standard centre box and ran a single piece of 60mm exhaust sleeved over it. Works well, sounds pukka!!

Rear disc conversion sorted off an Ibiza GTi, as well as a tasty Piper 285 cam/vernier!

I'm sorry but i have tried and tried to like this but its hard i think I'm going to have to be a hater man there's only so much you can do with 999£ that why the car looks like it does now like you said some love it some hate it I'm not knocking the hard work you must put into this built but its not for me good luck with the project in the

future.

How did you deal with the two rubber hoses under the car? I am assuming they are fuel pipes. On mine they are right in the path of where I want the exhaust to go!

There are the brake hoses, running down the nearside??

This is good fun!

Bit annoying how close together the centre branches of inlet mani are, chop it back more like you said, chop up some alloy tube on the angles, then weld small stubs on for the carbs to mount to dead inline, so the rubbers are literally just holding the carbs on, not acting as a manifold, have done this on a friends car and works well, carbs are solid even without brackets :)
