Why would you want an exhaust noise played through your car stereo?

It is gay, but manufacturers have been doing similar things for years. The NVH boys spend ages making the cabin as quiet as possible, but then you can't hear when to change gear - so you synthesize the sound somehow. VAG have done it with bulkhead membranes plumbed in to the inlet tract before now, I guess the stereo option means that they can more easily tune what the occupants hear.

Well not really, a noisy exhaust might be fitted as performance aid, your not gonna get any performance by playing an engine noise through your car stereo. Unless you know some thing I don't? In which case I'm off to record myself making broom noises and then burn it to cd for the next trip to the pod
