Just wish I had more time to spend on this.

So busy at work at the moment meaning I have to work late and weekends, so don't have much time to get stuff done.

Just got a few niggles to sort out with the brake system then it's mot and road tuning time.

Picking up a new head at the start of next week and another avy block at some point to start building a boost engine, that will get put in at some point.

Next step for this engine will be tuning the ms ve table and getting parts ready for electronic ignition, my ECU can use the stock 60-2 crank position sensor for wasted spark control using polo gti components. Then I can bin the outdated centrifugal and vacuum ignition advance system.

At least the car will be running and ready for a few shows this year

Any updates man

Not updated this thread in a while I keep forgetting about it.

Also I bought a G40 a good few months back so work kind of drew to a hault on this :D

Since last update:

- Replaced all copper brake lines

- 256mm front brake upgrade

- All wheel bearings replaced

- New ARB blocks made and fitted to allow more clearance for 4-2-1

- New track rod ends and rods

- Exhaust made and fitted

- Interior and all wiring tidied

- Modified throttle body to have idle control screw

- Roughly mapped too fuel for correct AFR

- Rolled arches

- Amoungest other little bits and bobs

Booked in for mapping session on Monday and will replace the G40 over winter, should be on the road end of next week.

Managed to map the warmup cycle and idle to be reasonably good just needs the accell/decell enrichment, over run ect ect tuning now.

Not to bothered about power output for now its just a winter car but should be around 140-150 bhp.

Sounds good man, alot of work, bet it looks smart how have you got so much power from it?

  • Author

I don't know what power I will be getting from it, I estimate around 140-150

A standard gti is 125 from factory so an extra 15-25 extra is asking too much tbh.

Especially with mappable fuel control, 4-2-1, exhaust system ect

Yeah man, is yours an AFH with AVY/ARC?

If you still had carbs youd push for 140-150 easy. I cant wait to see your car tho boss!

Fantastic conversion, bet it would make a fantastic sprint/track car.

Whats the reasoning for dumping the carbs and putting the original manifold/injection system back on?

Fancied a go at installing a megasquirt ecu.

It may be the standard manifold, injectors, throttle body ect but it is not controlled by the orginal system.

Had to change the day it goes in for a tuning session, cant do a weekday because my mate with a trailer can't get it off work.

Re-booked for 9/11/13 now so going to install a wasted spark set-up before then so more power can be squeezed out of it.

Haha, Can't wait to see the figures, What you thinking it'll do mate?

People with ITB's are hitting around 170bhp on these engines.

I should hit at least 140-150 (as stated already above) on standard cams.

what happened with this then?

Had to change the day I go for mapping, my mate couldn't get the day off work and he's the one with a trailer licence and trailer.

Couldn't get booked in for a couple of weeks if i wanted to go on a saturday so it's booked in for 9-11-13.

Gives me some time to get the mappable ignition sorted though.

Polo GTI coil pack arrived yesterday

Coil pack connector is ordered should be here tomorrow.

ECU has been sent away for 2 spark outputs.

Gonna use the OEM 60-2 hall sensor trigger that I have already on the engine.

Gonna wire everything up this weekend and try get some sparks flying.

Only bit of information I need to know now is where the missing teeth on the trigger wheel are in relation to the sensor when cylinder 1 is at tdc.

So need someone to either take a picture of this for me or i'll end up working it out through trial and error.

Getting closer to finding out the information I need but not quite, below is a link to the vw workshop manual fitting instructions for fitting the trigger wheel/crankshaft seal.

A special vw tool is used to press the seal/trigger onto the end of the crankshaft.

I use a gti coil pack. But with the amplifier removed. As I did like you have done and bought the plug etc and then got to the rolling road to wire it up and he took it all apart haha

The amplifier removed? Isn't the plug attached to the amp?

How is yours wired then?
