hi all i'm looking to put a sub in my boot floor and was wondering if anyone had any idea's on how to do it that will sound good and not tin like many thanks

Get yourself some Dynomat or similar soundproof matting and line the spare wheel well to plug up any holes, Make yourself up a boot floor template and make it out of mdf screw it down and seal up the sides with sealant worked fine for me.

sounds easy lol how thick would u say on mdf???? and any pics u could show me what it look like finished cheers

Been planning on doing this, was going to take the boot carpet out, draw round it on some 12mm MDF then cut round the template.

Would you still need to build a box round the sub or would the spare wheel well be enough?

use 18mm thick mdf or birch ply

build a box dont just us the spare wheel well

use silent coat or dynamat or rear quarters and boot (pm me i can get bulk packs of silent coat cheaper)

what sub was you planning on using and amp etc ????

definately make a box and seal it if you want bass line rumbleing your car. it sounds a bit shit if its just put in a hole

didnt make a box for it, just sealed the mdf down with sealant to make the wheel well airtight. sounds alright, nothing amazing

I thought about doing this. But i've decided to put my sub in the side of the boot under the parcel shelf support by making a custom fibreglass and MDF box. A better soloution i think as you can still have a spare wheel, and wont have to worry about stuff damaging the sub as much :-). And obviously i will sound deaden the rear quarter on that side. It wont sound its best just in the wheel well, as the steel is too thin, even with sound deadening, and the sub will be flexing it. Just my opinion anyway.

why not go for a slim box the width of the boot...and then mount the amp where you want to mount the sub now?

I've done mine too u will find it in my build thread. As said u do need it in a box and the box size is all dependent on the sub size for best results. Plus it's a huge must to dynamat or skinz to prevent distortion etc. Do the inside of your tailgate too.

I just used some old audio in my old car. Didnt dynamat it or anything and didnt sound awful. Did what i wanted it to do so was ok for me
