I'm not sold on DSGs tbh, I drove a mk5 jetta with a 2.0 TDI and DSG and it just felt like a common automatic with tiptronic....

I'm sure with steering wheel paddles its a different kettle of fish though!

Yeah man, thats what i mean, DSG with the new GTI Paddles. My bro drove the polo GTI 6r shape with a DSG paddle box he said how rapid it was, (Normally used to driving a 13secs 1/4 mile bug lol).

£90 for enough to do a car!

So here's what I've been up to in the last couple of weeks!

The car had been very much like this since I got it, on the VZs (which I've grown to love more and more on the 5 door golf), rolling around at standard height. Very comfy, but comical/boderline dangerous trying to put down all that torque.

So lows had to happen! And what with Stu putting his car back to standard, we came to an arrangement and had a day in the sweltering heat watching our cars undergo a bodyswap....

I ended up with a slightly mixed set up with JOM front coilovers and AP rears, and set them as low as the front arb would let me

I also bought his genuine anni rear valence []

I was very happy with the car at this point, sitting pretty on the VZs, although admittedly a little high at the rear but the car was still being a removal truck so I needed a little extra height !

I was especially fond of the new bootay [:p]

Phase one complete, the car stayed like this for a couple of weeks as I gallavanted up and down the country picking up all my junk

This was all good and well until a CV joint boot burst on me, due to the strut fouling it, so I raised it up and adjusted a couple of things since I was rubbing the ARB anyway.

So phase 2, the plastidipping:

After moving house, I decided to crack on with dipping the car, having bought the paint and the gun over a month ago, I was just waiting to have the time and the space !

So first the car was cleaned thouroughly, with the strongest bucket of fairy ever and a very long suffering clay bar ( many thanks to timbomfg for teaching me the ways of the clay )

Other than that, it was just a case of masking up and spraying the stuff!

I struggled with the gun if I'm honest, it was a little tempermental and after experimenting with various viscosities and nozzle settings I decided to just make it as evenly uneven as possible ( if that makes sense )

It's basically a barbecue paint type finish at the moment, and is far from perfect, but its what I've got for now and I'm reasonably happy with it. I'm toying with a few new finish ideas but I can see it being redone after show season.

It's very much as the dipyourcar.com videos say, you just spray it on the headlights and peel it off when you're done.

After much faffing around on the second day of spraying I finally had the car looking reasonably respectable

And that's phase 2!

Today, I put a couple of little touches on the car I'd been waiting to fit for a while, which included some 25mm spacers to take care of the tuck situation

And I fitted my luggage net to the boot floor, just a little something but very handy!

The thing I love the most about it now ( and I know this says a lot about the paint finish :( ) Is the way it looks at night!

I've heard of that plastidip stuff before but had no idea what it was all about - I still don't... Is that remote electric windows or someone laying down inside?
