sorry off topic abit, you're fromguilford just up with road from me in addlestone, you know if there are any local meets mate? i've just mvoed here from london a few months ago

Theres not a lot really. I organise a Cleaned-UK southeast meet every now and then, but nothing regular.

If there were enough of us to warrant it, i'd suggest a ClubPolo southeast meet, last time i looked, about a year ago, there weren't. Might be more of us now.

what about the new services on the m25? ?

looks perfect but need to watch out for old bill hanging out there

quick little up date :)

so I'm using the APX lump out of a TT

forged internals, 225bhp with a Ko4 turbo

02j gear box

g60 fly and vr6 clutch

AGU loom and ECU

AGU coilpacks

AGU throttle body

AGU maf

AGU ignition amp

iv seen a few people have changed there pedal box

for the fly by wire and hydro clutch

I'm going to be using my standed one and convert the clutch to cable

and the fly by wire throttle to cable throttle :paranoid:

Just ordered some stuff too:

A set of brand new front lower arms with ball joint.

Powerflex front and rear bushes.

Powerflex rear beam bushes .

Just looking for a rear beam now so i can get it painted and fit the new bushes/

Then convert it to 6n2 gti rear brakes.

il try get some photos up this weekend :D

Good luck getting hold of the cable clutch conversion parts! Took me a while...

Forged internals?

Forged internals?

This....no need to if your only going K04, unless you want to upgrade later on obviously ;)

P.S. More pics needed!

The 225 tt 1.8t's had forged mahle pistons and crank.Although only the apy/apx early s3/tt engines had the stronger rods and forged pistons and crank but a smallport head, I'm

Not changing them :) as soon as my stuff arrives il get some photos :)

Cars looking alittle sorry for itself ATM :( my spline set has just arrived so I'm off to change the clutch and fly wheel, iv been in contact with seat and they still have the parts avalible for the cable clutch convertion

Neigh, you're incorrect. It's the BAM's that had it, not the APX's. It was also only a certain amount of them and you're unable to find out without opening the engine up.

Right just going to correct you before someone else does,

I have no idea where you have got this information from but your certainly wrong, you get the APX the BAM and APY ect all 225 bhp, the engines are designed to only make 225bhp with 98 ron fuel. anything less reduces power output so your looking at around 210bhp.

the APX and the BAM engines are pretty much exactly the same

APX was fitted up to about 2001, BAM fitted there after (except QS).

APX has a stronger bottom end (20mm gudgeon pins rather than 18 /19mm).

APX has auxiliary air system (large black pump beside power steering pump).

BOTH APX and BAM have "Fly-By-Wire" throttle operation (both use ME7.5)

BAM has variable cam timing (Emission control only, unlike VTec or VANos).

Both produce the same power / torque etc.

BOTH APX and BAM use the same blocks ...06A103021C

BOTH APX and BAM use the same pistons and crank checked part numbers via ETKA!

The only reason for the BAM replacing the APX was due to the emission legislation from 2001 !

so the BAM is pretty much the APX, the BAM was made to meet emission regulations for 2001

with the VVT on the BAM for emission purposes only

both engines have stronger rods, forged pistons and crank...

unlike the APY from an Audi S3 that was released with forged pistons, conrods and crank as standard that was then downgraded to the AMK. (the BAM engine is the worst as it only has 19mm wrist pins) as Audi were spending so much on making the engine. The APY can flow well over 400bhp standard the problem is people in the know do not let them go easily as they are so superior to any other 1.8t engine. people have had the APX to 400bhp with standard internals

BAM you are looking at 350ish as pins start to bend there for making the engine better! the APX also has a better ported head to the BAM..all BAM and APX engines have a forged bottom end,

Thanks :D

much love <3 x

Sorry mate... i think some of the info you have is wrong

I've changed the rods in my BAM and they were 20mm

best combination for anyone is to use a BAM/APX/APY bottom end combined with an AGU head as you get a strong bottom end along with the flow of a large port head

preferably not the BAM as you will have issues with the VVT

any 1.8T going 300bhp+ on standard internals is basically running on borrowed time, it will eventually let go

but with poor mapping on a ko4 you can easily bend a rod (plenty of stories on the net)

I'm pretty sure all the engines equipped with a KO4 as standard have forged pistons, its the rods that will cause issues

but on a well mapped ko4 you should be fine

but if u hybrid the ko4 or go GT28, GT3017r, VF22 or VF24 you will need the foged pistons (aftermarket or VW) and forged rods (will have to be aftermarket as VW dont do forged rods)

so basically the standard rods take 300bhp-ish

the forged pistons in the BAM/APX/APY will be ok up to around 400bhp-ish after which you will need to go aftermarket

also i would advice against a cable clutch conversion

just fit a mk5 polo tdi pedalbox as it is a straight fit and uses a hydro clutch as standard.. plus this way is cheaper and its a proper job :-)

Thanks alot man for the help :) yeah i was thinking about the pedalbox but cant seem to get hold of one

is it also fly by wire?

best way to get one is find a TDi breaking on ebay and call them.. people dont seem to list the pedal boxes

i paid £40 for mine i think

I'm not sure about the accelerator pedal, might be worth testing it and swapping it out later if required

Yeah a few people say they used a polo or lupo gti pedal box as the fly by wire on the tdi isn't compatible with the petrol engine :/ and they have fabricated a Leon pedal to the box :/

Also .. When you say mk5 do you mean the 6n2 mk5 ?

Edited by damians1992

cant use a polo gti pedalbox as it does not have a hydro clutch

i know the lupo 6 speeds do (rare to find) I'm not sure about the 5 speeds

definitely easier to source one from a polo TDi and modify it to work

and yeah i mean 6n2 tdi

Thanks for that man :) il go on a hunt this week :) ...

Still reading alot on how The later BAM engine are supposed to have 19mm wrist pins.

And how they changed the rods later on.. Also found they have to selections on ETOS and ETKA and the exploded diagrams show 19 mm pins and 20 mm pins with different part numbers :/

But who knows ... I don't have a bam so don't even know why I'm looking in to this haha

Could I ask what car you have ?

yeah i was researching into it a while back.. theres alot of wrong info on forums

I'm pretty sure all ko4'd engines have the same 20mm wrist pins (not 100% sure on the AMK)

19mm was mainly for the ko3 and ko3s turbo'd engine although some of them came with the 20mm ones

As for what i drive "Just another 20VT" 6n  (work in progress)
