Just fitted AP 40/30 kit

Featured Replies

Firstly, the rears are doing my fucking head in. Does anyone have the AP kit? Why are the rear damper rods stepped/shouldered twice where the big washer goes? It seems wrong to me.

Anyway, no noise prior to fitting whatsoever but now the top mounts (i assume) are knocking away like a pair of nymphos. One of the top rubbers is squashed more than the other yet there are the same number of thread showing. And there's this deep creaking sound under slow compression/rebound. The kit comes with rear top mounts by the way and they are what i used. I may put the old ones back in to see what happens. I also moved the rears up a notch to get it sitting level before fitting.

Why is my brand new suspension fitted with new rubbers making a hellish noise?

The car also jumps about around bumpy bends as it can no longer absorb anything.

Here's the strangest thing.

Before fitting, the car pulled to the left and the steering wheel was to the right. Previously we had the tracking checked as it was pulling to the right heavily and was a bastard to steer and the wheel was to the left. They said the tracking was fine and (for reasons unknown) put the rear wheels on the front and vice versa. This cured the steering problem and moved the wheel from an extreme left position to a slightly right position but there was slight pulling to the left.

Now. I fitted the kit and took it up the road. The first thing i noticed was the steering wheel was dead centre and the car was going straight. WHY? I changed NO bushes, TCA's or anything. No adjustment just a straight swap of suspension. Everything great except for that fecking knocking on the rears!!!! I did have a shitty rattling too from the front before but that seems to have gone now. May have been top mounts as i renewed those.

Driving it today i can feel it gradually pulling left again and the wheel is moving to the right also. Gutted. Seems it's settling in and reverting to old shitty ways. Possible to settle? Why?

Had a look at the front. These are my observations,

On top of the turrets where the nuts screw over the damper rods, the metal cup thing underneath is sitting parallel to the turret on the n/s but not on the o/s - Why?

I've checked the camber both sides by eyeballing the rears inline with the fronts. They are the same both sides and either the rears are negative or fronts are positive - Why? Especially after lowering, they should be neative at the front.....

The front tyres have more wear on the outside (so this points to positive camber) and are feathered on the front edges of the tread - Why?

I haven't checked whether there is any toe. When PPP decide to get back to me over some ARB blocks and i get them fitted i will have the tracking checked but as it stands, the wheels are sitting central in the arches from side on.

These cars..........
