I'll add my voice to the 'leave it alone' crowd, that's one rare little Polo you have there. I don't think I've ever seen that interior before, though I have seen that exterior colour more than once. There can't have been many sold that are this early and this high spec, for a Mk2 Polo at least.

Whatever you do modification wise, do it sensitively, because you'll be very unlikely to find another like this one.

Yes, it's getting lowered and then the outside is going to be refurbed.. and that's it! Just need to find some better suited wheels.

The rust, the scratches, dents and lacquer peel haven't shown up in the pictures. It's either touchups here and there, or go the whole hog and get it sparkling! The bodywork is getting done for free anyway, and isn't costing me a whole lot to get it sprayed.

Superb car, such a lovely example of an early van, I would recommend refurbing the steels yourself, its cheap and easy

Spend £15 at Wilkinson's for assorted sand paper, masking tape, primer and paint. If you muck it up its only £10 worth of wheels.

The side trims on the doors/rear panel.. They have to be removed for the respray, but they are pretty shitty. Do I put them back on?!

How are they faded? If the chrome is metal polish it. If the black plastic is faded get some back to black. Either way YES. To remove stuff like that I would suggest going out and buying various thickness' of guitar picks, they will let you prise it off but they will give in slightly - These also might be of use.

The 'chrome' is flaking and seperating, some bits are shiny.. most is pretty dull, and cracked.

That's the stuff. I used to use Car Plans trim wax but the Back to Black from a can is much easier to use and gives just a good a finish. I think it sprays out too thin though, I've had to really layer it on.

Nice to see her looking happy in her new urban garage :) That was exactly the setting I wanted for my photoshoot with her, instead we ended up outside Damo's and the old airport :) but still, I'm very happy with the pics given that it was pissing it down and I was holding back the tears.

Please do the jobs properly on her. I tell you now slightly marked OG paint sells sooooo much better than a shit masked re-spray in mint condition. Not only will it sell better it will last better, it's lasted the last 29 years just fine

As for taking the side trim off, if you brush up on your german and look on websites over there you're sure to find some more, alternatively you could get it recon'd... speak to Jay? He might have a suggestion.

Any black bits you're not happy with, I assure you that they're better than any other polo of her age, if you use Maguiars gold class trim detailer on her then anything slightly faded comes up gleaming for weeks and if you do it regulalry enough (every month or so) it soaks in and builds up the protection meaning you never notice when it needs topping up. To be fair I let her trim care slip in recent months due to never seeing her enough really.

Hey Rox.. nothing is going to be done bodywork or paintwise, until I am absolutely happy I have replacements and the trust in the expertise of the people doing the work.

I think CrazyQuiffs sells Golf MK1 chrome trim for the front/rear screen.. I am going to email them to see if it will be suitable for a Polo.

Hopefully I can find some suitable replacements for the chrome, rather than taking off the trims.

The car is running a hell of a lot better with the new carb, after its setup and new cambelt fitting. Still not 100% tho - it's got a really strange tendency to jerk over 60mph, like its cutting out and coming back on again. Trying to get to the bottom of it. Loads of stuff has been replaced lately.. cv boots on the front etc.

Subframe and lowering kit will be next, but only after I get some tyres to the match the ones I have. Definitely need to get rid of the tractor tyres.. the rear right bottoms out horribly on any bumps.

I bought some of the Maguiars stuff the other day.. haven't had a chance to clean the car and use it yet.
