MK2F Indian Red Olop!

Featured Replies

so after many issues with insurance and what not I ended up buying JakeEllis's Polo! And 2300 miles later i'm finally getting round to writing this build thread!!

So far I've had the rear interior out (for ease of loading up with bmx's/ drift trikes :-D ) and i've purchased some 13x7 Superlites!!

Unfortunately one of these was badly damaged when the previous owner hit a pot hole :( and so i'm having to purchase a brand new one to replace it. But at £150 with 2 Yoko and 2 Continentals which were fairly new I wasn't going to complain!!

Due to the width and offset of the superlites they were rather pokey and so I got hold of some MK2 GTI arches and put them on. I think they look pretty tidy! a nice oem mod that I haven't seen before? Probably just haven't looked hard enough

More detailed pics to follow...

Picture update :)

I got some banded 6n steels from James (P0_LOW on here) last night for £200 with tyres! They're 5.5j up front and 7.5j rear. They were an absolute steal (pardon the pun) at that price, especially considering the colour fits in perfectly with my car! I also got myself a set of lowering springs from a member on here along with front shocks, 60mm front and 40mm rear and these seem to have done the trick handling wise. A couple of quick photo's of the coupe as the sun was going down; Let me know what you think :D

Looks lovely

I picked the colour of them steels ran them for 2 days and sold them :) glad you like car looks good as the fronts tuck quite a lot I get a 25mm spacer dude but your call! Keep it up

Cheers Jake! Glad you're pleased with what I've done so far.

Matt-c: I thought they were your wheels! i wanted them when you advertised them the first time on here. I am going to take your advice on the spacers for sure. The tuck is exaggerated a lot by the fact i have mk2 Golf gti trims on it so I may remove those and get some standard trims. Which company banded the steels for you btw? i was thinking of getting then fronts done to 6.5j at some point. And do you know what the paint code was? or what the colour was called?

How have you put those arches on? And not too keen on colour of wheels

Ermm to be honest I got them from gti Springfest already banded (the two rears and a 4.5j and 5.5j fronts) so I sourced another 5.5j

The bloke was from a banding company but I stupidly never took down the name!

I'll get you the ral number ASAP mate - as for the colour jake I sent them too my friend to be blasted and coated and let him pick the colour as my car was white so anything would work.

Yeah would look nice on a white one what I meant was doesn't suit colour of car I don't think

Sweet, cheers Matt! I think i may have seen them when i was at gti springfest funnily enough, but i didn't have the money to buy them at the time, funny how things come around like that. In terms of the colour i'm very temped to get them sprayed cream or white, but before that both the front tyres need replacing so they will be my priority. Centre caps in a matching colour may be a good plan?? or some G60 centres?

Jake: The arches are bolted onto the bumper with very small black screws, and then i've attached them on the inner arch too with some more screws. Nice OEM feature for a bit more width i though, but i need the fronts spaced out or the arches replaced with normal coupe ones really.

Sweet sounds good mate I did sell them with some caps .... I'll keep an eye on this one

Ah good thought you had but them into the arches :/ and yeah white or black would look decent!

i like second one ollie :)

I was thinking the same, we'll see though, gotta get some money together to get the fronts banded to 7j 8-)

Went out to my local underground car park ( as you do) and a couple of shots using my car rig the other night. Pretty happy with the results, even if my rig did snap after the last shot! lol. check them out :)

So i decided after speaking to some local mechanics today that the stretch on my rear tyres was way too much. They informed me more and more about how dangerous stretched tyres were and so I took their advice and removed them from my car... replacing them with the alloys that came on the car originally :( SHE LOOKS SO SAD!!! But i'd rather that, than a dead Polo and a beat up body so needs must.

Anyways, i've found out i'm going to need something like a 205/60/13 to actually fit my wheels correctly! Maybe a 195/60/13 at a push...

Guess i'm going to have to get some Nankangs because anything else at that price is rather dear and difficult to come by! Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Stretch isn't that bad! You could of had them still on there and still look for some smaller tyres :/ you liking the white alloys ;) haha I know I didn't

I could fit my little finger in between the bead of the tyre and the rim so it was fairly bad! I just don't want any hassle from police etc, or at worst a crash. Tyres will be sorted shortly :)

My new (remold) tyres just arrived. Although they read 195/55/13 on the sidewall I am very sceptical that they actually are because they look far skinnier than my 175/50/13 continental tyres :'( i really hope this isnt a waste of money! Pics will be up once they are fitten on my steels

The stretch on those rears are hardly anything. I was running 195 45 13's on 9j's and my mate is now running 195 45 15's on a 10.5j haha

Thats insane!!!! Bet it looks the absolute nuts though!! There is so much grey area stuff when it comes to stretched tyres... but i needed new tyres anyways so it makes sense to get ones that are at a legal width :)

Man I can't think of anything worse than stretching a remould tyre on, youve got balls I'll say that much!

Shoulda just bought some 175/50 contis or yokos, would've been fine.
