facet by tank - regulator in bay.

Just for setup purposes pacmon! I wanted it there perm just cause it looks cool in the bay, but yeah, not meant to be left in for long periods of time.

Might just put it in for shows for the fun of it

Saying bye bye to the helpers me thinks! Had to order a 22mm swan neck tho as i cant undo the top nut, so gotta wait for that to arrive now.

Gasket paper arrived yesterday, so this can go on tomorrow :D

Good work dude, yeah helpers will see it scraping its belly on the floor.

This has got a stage 2 right?

I've been thinking about how I'm gonna tie the vacuum lines together, but surely if you just loop them together you're gonna loose vacuum into the cylinder that's not producing it?

So you'll only ever have one pulse of vacuum? One-way valves?

Toby with the steering arm and the helpers in place you are loosing about 85mm of thread on the front coilies, never mind all that thread your not using. why would you even think that that would make it low?

The helpers are pointless in this setup tbh, its gonna need to he raised for the mot and doing this would take the play out of the main spring anyway. Ideally they could do with custom steering arms using on them that take up less thread, but its such a crucial part of the steering and you would have to be very confidant in your design cause imagine if you sold a set to someone and it failed :-(

From a safety perspective the polo arms are ideal, just not from a lows perspective

Play in a spring isnt an mot fail.

Depends if the tester wants to be a dick, they can fail it for shit loads of stuff that isn't a fail as a lot of it is down to the testers discretion. What you gonna do if they do fail it for that, argue with them?

Because telling an arsey mot tester how to do their job is a sure fire way getting a pass

Edited by Mclovin

Yes id argue, because its only a fail if the spring doesent reseat correctly, its in the rules

What about bike carbs spraying fuel over the bulkhead or poke or tyres fitted to rims out of their approved range, or steering wheels without E markings and such???

my mot garage are sound anyway ;)

I was just going off what Kiz told me Guy, he was confident id not need to remove the helpers to get fairly low.

Ahhwell, helpers will be gone asap.

Max, no, i sold the subframe like a year ago  No need for it if I'm running it low. Wont be able to driver it hard enough to take advantage of a subframe.

Fucking hate myself, overslept when i wanted to get up early as usual  Cant get nout done today now :crybaby:

Day off tomorrow, best fucking not rain!!

stock wheels add lift for me, fitting them, 2 lots of helpers so i dont have to wind coilovers up (few reasons) and hope for the best :-) As long as you can get it on the lift/ramp its all good

Also i thought i'd get it laying with helpers. fail :-(

Why cant you do stuffz, only half 11?

Yes id argue, because its only a fail if the spring doesent reseat correctly, its in the rules

It's down to the testers discretion, if he feels something is dangers then he can fail the car on it. You can argue it all you like but I'd imagine the chances of a tester taking kindly to being told how to do his job by some wet behind the ears kids are very slim

You can appeal against the examiners’ decision and have the car re-examined, but I believe this is done at a vosa test facility rather than a back street garage so will more than likely be even stricter on what they will let slide.

So long and short of it is its not as black and white as you are trying to make out it is as about 90% of the mot test is down to the testers discretion. Feel free to Google "mot tester discretion" to get a better idea of what it means during an mot test

Sorry for clogging up your thread Toby but keep seeing him repeating that shit all over the place and thought it best I add some reality to it before people start taking it as gospel

Edited by Mclovin

Put a cable tie around the threads by bottom adjuster, wind car up so spring is tight when jacked up, go for MOT, come home, wind back down to cable tie. No issues, and if you change wheels for MOT you're already there.

Also makes their life easy getting it on and off ramp

haha its cool.

Rally design springs are like 15.90 each... Think I'm going to go for it and get more polo friendly spring rates. £60... i can think or worse ways to spend it

Stiff is all good to stop rubbing, but i had enough spine shattering in the breadvan!

Decided on front spring rates of about 270, just unsure on rears. They are 270 atm and are stupidly stiff... 200/220 maybe?

Why not put the rear springs on the front if they are the poundage you want, then you only have to buy rears?

  • Author

Different length i think?

I need um all off to measure but cant yet until i get said spanner.

If they are the same length then yeh i will, but i think they are longer!

Mate I have 1000's of reels of orange tape and conduit at work, I hope you paid fuck all for it!

  • Author

Paid a fair bit, but how was i to know you had some

Ahhwell, i like it, impulse buys FTW!

Little bit of progress today, although it feels like a load to me paha!

Bonnet back on

Dizzy fitted with new cap and arm

New plugs fitted and leads

Inlet mani fitted

Alt harness fitted, as i forgot before. Pig to stop it catching on the driveshaft with no clamps on the sump anymore!

Location sourced for coil/MK2 ignition loom thingy aaand fuel regulator. Just need to make a bracket for the regulator and drill some holes for the coil/ecu doodar.

Also, with the coil where I'm putting it, i can use a standard AFH king lead and still have it hidden in the scuttle :o Mezzin!

More progress tomorrow hopefully :)

Lol, I think I've actually got or ordered everything for it now :o

Going vw after work order the last few bits from there.

Need some cosmetic bits and bobs (vinyl dye for front door cards and laminx for fogs, some paint) and that's about it.

Was meant to finish putting suspension together yesterday but ended up doing other stuff. I've gone from having all the time in the world and being lazy to having fuck all time what so ever to do stuff lol.

And no, it won't be at action, neither will I.

Dude, please get this finished asap.... pleaseeee! I've managed to remove all running gear, replace EVERYTHING bar beam, hubs, driveshafts, partially smooth engine bay, paint and refit EVERYTHING bar engine in 4 months.... come on man :-(

Any new pictures of this new ride height mate :-)

Build thread- not a chatroom.

Hmmm :ninja: lol

Been doing some faffing, hit some problems but sorted them easily enough (or so i hope)

So, i fitted the coilovers, wound um down a bit with helpers in and not a great deal happened

IMG-20120730-WA0012.jpg

Gave this height... (this is with helpers in)

DSC_0241.jpg

Then i took the helpers out

DSC_0258.jpg

Then i wound it down more and made the bumpstops pointlessly small

DSC_0274.jpg

Bumpstops:

DSC_0261.jpg

DSC_0263.jpg

Had a slight problem with the weight on the driveshaft fouling the block, so moved that over a bit...

DSC_0269.jpg

Hopefully it wont cause any problems, but if it does I'm going to have to grind the block back!

All it is, is a bit of excess with a hole in, used for 2nd engine mount, so no use as the polo doesnt have one. Sure Barryboys will absolutely love it if i grind some metal off the engine block

Tomorrow i plan to bring the rears down a little and get the BBS fitted.

Need to modify my brake lines a little too then i can get all the brakes plumbed in. Get front chassis brace fitted too.

Then its just small tasks really, fit and wire in fuel pump by tank

Make a bracket for fuel regulator, fit, and get all of that plumbed in

Figure out the wiring and get the loom in, soldered and tidied up

Fill with oil and water - attempt turn of key.

And just cause its cool...

DSC_0280.jpg

hooray for progress! hopefully shell start up!
