Another Update... this should take us up to how the car is currently sitting!

After the fogs and with the Mercedes trims working well on the G60's the car was looking respectable but i was still not happy with it, with all the respect i had for G60's i still didn't feel like that was it... I had a feeling that i wanted a different look... ever since i had the car, right from the beginning i was tucking steels, and then Bathursts, but with them not being my wheels i didn't feel right going back to them. And the G60's were at the end of the day they were still steels (just with scene credentials). But don't get me wrong i still love them.

So i had a choice to make... commit to the G60's get some stretch going on and space them, or try and satisfy an urge to have my own set of alloy's and then get tyres and spacers for them instead. (this being the more expensive option)

As always i can never just settle with something just because it will work out cheaper, i was almost certain at one point i was going to though, until i actually read a performance vw mag, (i say read, i mean looked at the pictures) turned the first pages and humored the adverts... little did i know id find a set of wheels that took my fancy. Now i did say at the beginning of the thread, this isn't a big budget project. so couldn't afford the likes of schmidts ir bbs (genuine) so i was looking more at the mid to low price range.

Before looking at the brand i noticed a set of wheels that stuck out to me, i had noticed them based purely on their design which struck a chord with me, the problem came when i looked at the brand and a little bit of snobbery came over me. They were Cades. I didn't dislike the company but at the same time was pretty sure they didn't have much of a status in the Dub scene. I had a friend with some, but didn't think any more of it. So i was left a few days pondering the decision. In the mean time i was searching around, googling the wheel in question, trying to find it on a car, i was quite happy in a way that the only image i could find of them on something was a photoshop of a lupo wearing them. Any mention of them in the search seemed to be on dub sites too. Still not a picture with them on a car though. So it was a brave move as i was unsure on how they'd be received by the community (you guys) but i went for it and ordered the Cades Jadis wheel in black.

At the same time i purchased 4 new tyres from ebay, Not expensive but i think commonly used for the stretch, some Nankangs in 165/50/15. These over a 7 J wheel resulted in a nice stretch. and the wheel and tyre together looked quite right!

I'd done it, new wheels, new tyres...

Just had a small wait for the spacers now. These arrived quickly and were being put onto the car as soon as i had them! Unfortunately i had to do something disgusting to get the arch to stop sitting on the tyre. I had to raise the car 20mm!! and it still scrubs... but an amount i will accept. Eventually the plan will be to add more camber here and there in order to regain the lows which i had previously.

Could do with a little drop but well happy with it at the minute, but please leave your thoughts! thanks for following the build so far.

Not particularly a fan of the stretch, but I like the rims, very original and different; I've never seen them before. Makes a difference from all these Schimts (or whatever) and Ronal Turbo's

I'm thinking gloss black b-pillars and mirrors, no?

Edit: spell check :retard:

Yeah i wondered if it was too much, it does make the wheels look a little narrow but learned to love it form most angles, about the rims, that's one of the main reasons i went for them as i hadn't seen them before. Wanted to stay away from reps, and couldn't afford genuine. So was pleased to find something a bit different.

Cheers for comments! :-D

Was thinking about getting hold of some porsche center caps for the wheels, think they'd pull it off. :-)

Yeah man, Don't get porsche tho :ninja: Only kidding.

Just get VW ones :-)

Seriously those cades look so much better than I thought it almost makes me sell the RZ's and buy new cades. Seriously for a cheap wheel those look AWESOME

Yeah its interesting to see them in the flesh too, they really do look like a much more expensive wheel than they are! Thanks very much!

I think i like the wheels haha not sure if its the cars stance at the moment

well no i like the wheels but because of the design they already look like they're sticking out slightly and the spacers add to to that

pretty sure someone else on here came close to buying them wheels

The wheels have been on a while now, bored of tuck i'd been busy with spacers. The last few days i have been fiddling with the front camber, and after doing that realized i was losing the poke due to the angle of the wheel so ordered some 5mm spacers to stick behind the 20mm hubcentric's.

Today i bit the bullet and with the aid of a friend sorted a shade of rear camber, was boiling hot today, odd for Swansea...but after wrestling with with the drums and even breaking a screw driver i had enhanced my stance!

The day started off with a trip to 'Wickes' diy store, as they'd have everything i needed for the days events. On my shopping list...

- 30mm socket (for hub nut)

- Box of washers (for ghetto camber)

- Loctite (Some added security when re-tightening)

So after arriving at Wickes, walked around the shop a bit... couldn't find a single socket, let a lone a 30mm on its own, oh well look for some washers... couldn't find anything suitable, and the same story was true with the glue. Loads of loctite about, for leather, for wood just about everything but thread-lock.

So i gave up and went to B&Q, and in order not to bore you.... in essence it was exactly the same story. So admitted defeat... off to Halfrauds it was and i was in and out, picked up a socket, loctite and washers in a matter of minutes. I do passionately hate the place but i guess they do have the things you need now and again. So fair play to them today.

With all the bits i needed the job was quick and i was happy. Pics to come stay tuned

In other news i was getting tired of the current deployment of stickers on the car, and recently spotted something which made me giggle on a Chevy thiftmaster. 'I noticed that you're gangster, I'm pretty gangster myself'

Inoticedyouragangster.jpg

This is funny in context as i'm the least gangster person out there, but hey I'm not pretending! (although still into hiphop) I think i can just about justify a down and out sticker too so expect that to happen in the near future.

Will put the pics up of the mild camber and extra 5mm of poke soon

Them wheels are spot on! Always nice to see something different.

Nice progress mate, wheels arent to my taste, but its what u do with them that counts, and i must say u tamed em nicely

Fair play, when i bought them i knew i'd get a mixed bag of opinions. Thanks man 'taming' them has been the most enjoyable part of it, With the camber and extra spacing i'm really happy with them. Had to get a little aggressive with a bolt that joins the bumper to the arch today... :x ended up relocating it and cutting away the tabs that were there!

Been a while since i've looked on here, Been distracted with a new project. Car hasn't changed much apart from moving the number plate down to the lower grill, and the spacers have been on and off and back on! so thought id update with a few pics to keep the thread alive!

First one at the VW jamboree in Stithians cornwall, without spacers... :-(

DSC00744.jpg

Back at base with the spacers back on after taking them back off the newly acquired mk2 golf.

and finally just one of back!

DSC00800.jpg

Unfortunately i will have to sell this soon to fund the golf project, but in the meantime it's my daily!

Hope you have enjoyed the thread, Thanks a lot.

Looking good mate, couldnt help but notice we nearly have the same number plate except for the numbers.

Pete.

Noop sorry man, that's it for this one, its up for sale now. I think if i was to do more to it, it would be flared arches and more lows. I've focused my attention on the mk2 golf now. so this one is at the end of the road.
