Why turbo the 1 litre?

no point mate,if you like car that much just put a bigger ngine in

i want to be abit different! and because i know the engine! i am only the second owner of the car :)

Just think long and hard about what you want from it.

For the expense it really isn't worth it at all. If it's because you 'know the engine' all small block polo engines are virtually the same.

If you want power on a budget, you can pick up a GT engine for £100 if you keep your eyes open. Reliable and cheap fun.

i mean i know the engine like who has serviced it all it life and what work it has had done and thing like that!

has anyone turboed a 1ltr?

Put gt engine in and keep 1.0

Has been done, but it didn't last too long. Partly intentional though as CR wasn't reduced etc.

Cheys03 has written a great write up for turboing a standard 1.3, so most of that would apply here. You're likely to want a smaller turbo than he used due to the smaller capacity. Best bet is to read through that and return with questions. But jsut to give you an idea on cost (which i know you haven't asked about) but I have collected most of the parts for a simple, carb turbo build (including a cheap engine) and I'm already looking close to 1k. Do you really want to spend that on a 1l? The parts I have have been relatively cheap and I'm aiming for a 1.4

You you say it would be better to do a engine swap like a 1.3 gt and put it on carbs?

Thanks

Cheaper and likely to be similar power with some other mods

What engine should I drop in?

"Willsalter1000" has successfully turbo'd a 1.05 and it made very good power.

Albeit it was by accident, and he had been sold a AAU bottom end instead of a 1.3 AAV, i think it made 130-40hp, you will not get that out of a GT engine on a set of motorbike carbs/DCOE's so don't pretend so,

There's nothing technically wrong with a FI 1000cc engine, its exactly the same as doing in on a 1.3, apart from the slightly smaller peak power,

People say "Why a 1 litre engine?" because their for some reason under the impression they're a weaker engine than the equivalent 1.3, granted they're not as strong as a PY G40 engine mechanically, but they're just as strong as the AAV and ABD engines which have been successfully converted to run boost, granted the ABD has a lowered CR, but you can do this with a spacer plate or a stacked HG,

Good luck.

Sorry going sound abit thick but what is cr?

Compression ratio

The struggle continues.

I see thanks dude!!

If your wanting to do it on the cheap the cheapest reliable way you could go about it is.

1.4 8 aex engine block with a 1.6 8v aee/aea head as this will drop the cr, as Half the compression chamber on the aee/aea engine is in the cylinder head (make sense) not sure the exact cr it drops to but would have thought it would be good enough to run about 7ish psi reliably. Also means no spacer or double stack hg. Then just pop some bigger injectors in g60, 20v, or most Saab injectors fit without much modification. Then just use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to get it running as best you can.

Will never be perfect but should see you around 130bhp for around £500 of your finest notes

That's if you can do the work yourself

Hope that helps fella

and would probably det itself to death the first time you hit boost

you would also need a ecu that was capable of being mapped that could recognise boost and would know what to do with it. G40 management would probably be the cheapest and simplest option although some times you can drop on to a bargain with used after market management. other people use carb's and ignition setups from carb turbo cars like mg metro turbos and r5gtt's but they are not as efficient as EFI

no reason a 1 litre can't produce good power, plenty of cars came from the factory with boost on that size of engine including a 16v one made by vw. no offence intended but it doesn't sound like you know a lot about turboing an engine, as mentioned have a read of cheys thread in the faq to get an idea of whats involved, but also hit google and do some research on the subject, google isn't always 100% reliable but it will give you a good idea of what you have to do and why

We turbo'd my friends mx5 with a turbo and an adjustable pressure reg, nothing more tbh and it's not blown up yet and still drifts and makes lots of turbo noise haha :)

Agree with guy though, I wouldn't wanna tackle this if I was confident on knowledge of how an engine works and what effect the boost has on its components and such,

Ford made a 177hp (I think) 1.0 twin turbo.

Nothing wrong with boosting a 1.0, but IMO you'd be better virtually following Chey's guide for the AAV turbo conversion, just apply it to the 1.0 instead

Max, i'm not sure Will's engine made quite that much power. 160 is good T40 power. However, you are right in saying its been done. I had forgotten about that one (I was thinking of philj's).

Phil said that boosted 1 litre felt as quick as a standard G40

For all of 4 miles or something? lol

Theres a few more..... G is awesome :smirk:

Whack a K03 on an AAU and I reckon you'd get 160bhp easily enough with sufficient boost and the right camshaft. Just follow Chris Hey's guide on here, he's done all the hard work for you!

Worth mentioning though, that Chris' build costs weren't exactly budget. As the saying goes, fast and cheap isn't reliable; cheap and reliable isn't fast; fast and reliable isn't cheap. There are always exceptions that prove the rule though!

The best one is "were being towed home by some gypsies, the drive of shame" haha
