I'm probably still gonna have a 1.3 tbh. If i had a cam it wouldnt be so bad.

I don't know how mine's gonna drive yet, haven't finished bolting it together and i've never tried this engine (effectively a MK4 Golf 1.6 16v non-vvt) but it should be almost as good as the 1.6 AFH only more civilised.

Gearing will be hopelessly long, i'll have to start in first gear, and it's on Nangkangs.. Dunno what to hope for, but it won't be 15.5

Probs mid 16's mikey.

Nick you could easily do a 15.5

Hahaha yeah maybe max if we don't fall asleep at the lights

(photographic evidence too !)

On the one hand, Nick does in the 15's...bilco also does 15's, but who's the fastest? Only one way to find out!

FIGHT!

Hah I wouldn't even be ashamed if I lost to him, pod is slippery with road tyres. A diff will help massively

Mikey what happened to VVT? I know it beat itself up before Polo show, but have you not bothered going down the same route?

Did update it in my gallery, it's alright but the centrifugal curve of the dizzy is too basic for it, it worked and was still nippy, even got it through the MoT but it was a struggle because the single ignition curve just can't cover it properly, so i had to lean the hell out of the pilots just to get it through the emissions for unburnt fuel escaping around the ignition. Had i driven it home without opening them back up i'd have melted something.

Basically it needs mappable ignition or switched dizzies, and then it just might be worth it, but it's more than i wanna do for such little gain. I have a 9n Sport 1.4 100ps head so i'm going with a static version instead - the compromise likely to be a little torque, just as with the AFH, over the 8v or switched cam. But i really don't mind, it helps traction and reliability.

In fact, i also wanna try a mild head, i have a 1.4 75ps head too so i'll try that if i'm not sure about the 9n top. I might sack the cat off now too, as running fuel through it has probably killed it anyway.

Surely you'll be better than a 15.5 mr bike carb?

Why? I have no experience on the pod, i'll be using a scrapheap-challenge engine, relatively small carbs and long gearing for efficiency, and the road spec car has five seats, steel wheels..

It's not set up for the quarter mile, so no matter how well it's running on the day, the formula just isn't there.

I don't know what to expect, might do okay, i'm sure it'll be fun even if i get a 19! I don't care, i'm going on the pod :-p And at least i won't have to carry too much fuel, for worrying about using it all on the strip.

Mikey you fancy donating one of your frankenstein engines? Haha

I'm only messing btw mikey lol, You'll have fun, I had a laugh in my 1.4 6n, 19.3 y0

I've only got the heads Eric (and a Golf block), using the current AVY bottom end for all the heads - all fits the same.

Ah thats a shame mate. I want more power before gti fest so trying to think of the cheapest engine i can do.

Gt is good but demand high prices

Abd bottom end on my nz head would be just as good

Or nick has a 1.4 6n engine i could drop in...

Whats your opinion? 1.4 6n lump would be the same as a abd bottom end and mk2 head wouldnt it?

Just get anothet AFH in there eric, fuck these 8v girlies!

Cant afford it. Thanks to this dickhead selling me a fucked AEA.

As a result i need something mega cheap and cheerful before gti fest

Well i have a 316 e30 engine going free but that will be useless haha

Shame I'm scrapping that silver mk2 tomoz, coulda been a laugh hahahah

That 1.4 might be alright? Use an AEE head with AFH pistons and it'd be better because it'd have bravely high compression with bigger valves and big round ports, a GT cam will be half a tooth out but it's a thought and..

Stock, it'll still be better than what you have. I've never tried one from a 6n but i have tried a 1.4 8v and it made for a good balance on the road. Is that gonna be enough though? Or would you be better off waiting until after GTi fest for a better engine? Or is this just for the event?

Just want to see what can be done really. Mainly for gti fest though.

I was thinking, 1.4 8v, 268 cam and bike carbs with a new much longer inlet manifold. The nz is rediculously gutless!

I am still lost as to why Bilco is only getting 15.5 with his spec, I got 15.7 on a totally stock AFH with a mk1 polo exhaust system restricting it. Then a 15.2 on my next fucked up smoke blowing engine, If running correctly I would have seen a sub 15, may have been a 14.98 but would have been sub 15 ;)

Your running injection aswell higgo ? .. Hmm, What sort of time did guy get with his 1.4 in ?
