so So SO many wankers.

quote of the thread

I think some of the problem is that sarcasm doesn't come across on a keyboard it turns out to look like trolling, that then starts a bitch fest

Now this thread has turned into moaning about moaning -__- what the actual fuck.

Just me that has noticed that the build threads on here are more of a conversation than a proper build?

Sick of going through pages and pages of mindless chit chat when its a 'picture & video' section.

Thats what PM's are for!

If anyone wants their build thread tidied up PM me the post numbers of the posts you want to remove and I will do it while we are looking into the thread self moderating thing.

all I'm going to say is i think people are a little too comfortable talking on here, need to take it down a notch maybe, quality not quantity!

Tbh as far as information goes you could probably ban new topics in the technical sections cause pretty much everything is covered, just a pain to find.

Everyone just has to get the last word in

In all honestly I used to quite regularly read most people's build threads but I lost complete interest when all the chummy people started to discuss things that had no relation to the thread I was trying to read, sieving through all the bullshit and skipping far too many pages to avoid all the chat I couldn't give two hoots about.

This forum has helped me a lot with my polo when I had it hence why I still use it regularly when I drive a golf..

It does get slated a lot but that can't really be helped as for a lot of people polos are first cars therefor knowledge is minimal for a vast majority.

But that's my little whine for the night - hope it gets sorted any way.

Matt

The friendly banter/chit-chat has ceased now anyway...

It's a lot better since whatsapp tbh haha!

now I'm probably as much of a culprit as anyone tbh, but its because I'm sick of seeing the same old bullshit threads:

will a vr6 go straight into my mk2?

no, use the search

look at my rat-looker

its not, youv just nitromorsed the bonnet and taken a numberplate screw out

will a 13 inch tyre stretch over a 14 inch rim?

no dont be a retard

one day I'm going to import a lhd breadvan and put a diesel in it

good for you, il be more impressed when you show it to me

you wouldnt say that to my face

yes i would, if i knew who you were - but as you dont attend shows i dont get chance to

the list is endless! i mean I'm all for a bit of banter but some threads are just full blown rubbish! the build threads iv also gotten bored of, i cba reading half the time so a few pictures wouldnt go amiss

dont get me wrong i like this forum and have made some actual (not just know their name on the internet) friends through here but sometimes i just cant deal with the amount of shit that goes on with children bitching and moaning at each other

rant over :)

^^ Yeah, but imagine being on a Saxo forum.

My point is that Polos attract a certain type of audience/membership, and if you think you can eradicate this primary level coverage for an established infrastructure on a different level then best of luck.

Go to porn sites, get pervs. Go to a Polo site and i'm sorry, but you aint gonna find the sort of blokes who put V12 turbos in MK2 Jags everyday. You're gonna get dreamers who can afford nothing but Nitromors and stickers, and oddballs at that who wanna be more different than a Vauxhall driver.

i do see your point mikey, but its time after time after time that gets me - at least use the search ffs

Might have to do the old trick again where I spot someone who's dragging good threads down, have a look through all their recent posts and if there's nothing useful in there, delete the lot.

^^ Sounds good to me. Or delete the user?

Having been the person who's had their build thread cleaned twice in as many months, I'm getting a little sick of certain people who seem to be using it as a battle ground, either to snipe at my work, or at each other. I can't say I'm blameless, as I've probably taken offence to things I shouldn't have (sorry there Ben) and have probably gotten into arguments that were totally needless (Sorry there Guy). However, people have tried to put the boot in where it wasn't any of their concern, trying to make me look like a idiot (Sorry Kiz, remember trying to convince me I was uninsured?). and the people who are trying to be helpful, but can't resist having a go at other users (you know who you are) and then there's Max

There is a lot of great info on here and the majority of it comes from the same people. Having met most of the people mentioned above, I know them to be great guys. Kiz has an amazing knowledge of Polos who's work is second to none. Guy's a laugh who I believe would say everything he types to your face and Max is genuinely a nice lad. It's easy to look from the outside and it look like everyone is arguing, when in fact its nothing more than spririted discussion. The majority of people who have posted in this thread can probably, hand on heart, say they've been a bit of a gimp at some point, and have helped to erode the stature of this site themselves, me inclduded. However, I haven't probably helped myself by banging on about 'presentation', 'next level' and all that other PVW bullshit. Again, I think some of it has been taken the wrong way, as if I'm big headed or egotistical.

The only problem I have is this 'Use the Search' attitude thats going on. If thats going to be the attitude, then lets archive everythig and prevent more posts in the tech sections because I'm pretty sure the majority of things have been covered at least once. If people ask the same question, fine. You don't have to post in the thread, being all 'this has been posted before, just use the thread FFS'. That's not going to do the club image much good. Either be a little nicer about it, or keep your 'mouth closed'. This happened to me the other day, and although using the search would have answered one of my questions, it still left several unanswered. So the search isn't always omnipotent.

When I first joined the forum, I thought the place was occupied by dicks. I have seen this isn't the case. However, I don't want to be associated with a club that is viewed that way. As Yoof said, clubg40 has such a laid back vibe, and the same question can be asked again and again without the bitchy replies. If some of that mentality could be brought here (since there are lots of the same users) this place can only benefit.

I await the comments of being righteous and hypocrite that are inevitable, but I've been moderating my responses to threads recently, preventing my itchy keyboard warrior fingers to preserve some decorum on the site. It's all too easy to be a dick when you know the answer. But think back, everyone had to learn at some point and was everyone such a nice person to you?

Disclaimer: this is not me having a dig at anyone. To me it's all water under the bridge, I'm not looking to start fights with anyone :-D

Prankstar, this:

You speak the truth, this is how it should be I have looked for things I the search and couldn't find them, then post asking and get... Check the search function etc

We should all be united (not Manchester ) if the same questions keep coming then just help out or ignore it... Simples

I understand people attitude with the search, but you don't have to reply. Also, I like to browse the tech forums sometimes, just to look at problems and solutions, even if i don't have them. If all we have is a board of 'use the search' then there's going to be less for me, and other users to read. I have had issues that I haven'y posted about before, and just reading through the boards has helped me solve the problem without needing to start my own thread, despite it probably being a repeated thread itself.

Maybe more should be made to 'promote' the search as a useful function so people will stop repeating threads. Possible?

Thing for me is, I will quite happily answer the same question again and again and point people towards the relevant FAQ's.

What really gets on my tits, not just here, but anywhere in life, is when people ask a question they don't want to hear the answer to, then proceed to tell you you're a nice person for giving them the answer to that question.

But the search function is shit

I gave up on that long ago and just use google to search the forum, gives much better results

I try not to get my head in my arse when people ask the same old questions and I do try to help out where I can, but what does get me is when you get something like "how hard is it to put a vr6 in a mk3" you tell them and then they tell your you're wrong, its easy and they know loads of people that have done it

But then there's no helping those sort of people. They only want to hear that i will work, so i keep it shut most of the time. Thing is to answer the question, and nothing else. Fuck advice and a helping hand, people don't want it.

The exception is if I see a car potentially about to be butchered, that would be better off saved. Point being that 20v salooon in the mk2 build. I'd rather see it preserved than cut to pieces and then broken for spares. But then maybe i should keep it to myself and have faith that these people know what they're doing. Problem is, most of the time they don't :-(

It's his car tho, I'e much rather see someone actually trying to do a 20vt than people just saying they definitely will but never even getting close to starting. Unfortunately for that to happen a car has to be cut up, it may not come to anything and it may get scrapped, but it might just actually happen.

If it does come to nothing tho I wouldn't mind his windscreen

Normally they get to the stage of the car in bits and the donor engine on the floor and go sheepishly quiet.
