I need help wiring in this electric fan, and i have supplied the Haynes manual info on the in car circuit. I was under the impression i could cut the loom connector off the fan loom that attaches to the fan and crimp on new ends and attach the two wires off the electric fan.

Can some one who is good at electrics help me out here, or iff the conversion has been done by yourself help me out ? Would be a good one for the FAQ section.

I know i can get wire and attach the blue wire off the fan to the battery positive, then add a wire to the black wire on the fan and earth it, then the fan would be on constantly.

Then i could add an in line blade fuse holder on the positive wire i think so it would trip when something was wrong?

And also could i add a switch in the positive wire after the in line fuse so i could turn it on and off ?

Then i think i could add a temperature switch and relay some how, but iff i can add it to the in car loom it would be so much easier, just some clarification is needed .

Sorry but why cant you use the standard plug???

It may be 3 wires. One is a ground. The other two are for the varied speeds on the standard fan.

You can put the ground one to black on your fan and the other two both to the blue.

Meaning it will just run at full speed at the lower temp cut in instead of half as the resistor is built into the standard fan

Well I don't know , this is why I'm asking lol . When I have been googling ane looking on YouTube , people have been making a new loom on other cars to run the fan , or fans . Using a relay , temperature switch , fuse and switch and putting it to the battery. Dubownerwilko has also put his to the battery with a switch , need to confirm using the original loom . I don't want to try it iff it is not going to work .

I did it using a different electrical fan, chopped the connector off, soldered 3 wires and job done. It was a mk4gttdi fan but I don't see why it would be any different

I have a slim fan on my mk3 like the above. Wired with standard wiring

So what would be best , cutting off the loom connector , adding 2 bullit connectors to the wires and connecting them to the 2 connectors on the electric fan wires ?

mines on the standard wiring, with the standard connectors just taken out of the block thing there in. i managed to just pull them out with a screwdriver

You mean the connector on the fan ? I can pull it out and it has 3 pins on it I think , maybe spade shaped ? Is that what you mean ? And you just attached the fan wires to these pins ?

yup! works fine. youll know if you connect them the wrong way as the fan will just spin the opposite direction and your temp will keep going up

i had a quick look earlier and i wiggled off the loom connector plug on the fan, however the two pins were attached to the fan, i assume i can pull them out with some pliers and add them onto the plug that came off, will have a go on monday when my brackets come to hold my bigger rad on.

Just to confirm the fan does work when attached directly to the old loom , so i cut off the loom plug connector to the old fan, and crimped on spade connectors, then simply attached them to the two electric fan wires, today when i was driving i stopped and checked that the fan had kicked in when the car went over 95 degrees and it was on.
