insurance knew car was lowered, how

Featured Replies

I do not know the full details, it's just something I've picked up via our network of affiliated far clubs, there were two or three similar reports over the space of a couple of weeks, the insurer in question do not cover modified cars.

And TBH if you manage to crash during RWYB on a 1/4 mile of straight, perfect tarmac then you shoudnt be driving.:lol::lol:

In 99% of the Polos on here I agree. But stuff that's actually fast isn't easy to control.

1) going along to Santa Pod - taking registration numbers, cross referencing against their customers and cancelling any policies which flag up

Do you mean they look for cars with undeclared mods and cancel the policy, or they just cancel the policy of any car there that they are insured by? If its the latter then what does it have to do with them if I go to Santa pod in my car? :?

Agree! Looking for undeclared mods makes sense, but I can't see their legal standpoint for the latter.

A bloke off my estate smashed his V8 viva up on the start line at Santa pod in the summer, kinda sounds impressive until until you find out it was just a standard RV8 in it

Whoops!!

Mind you, I remember seeing a Mk2 Escort getting taken out by another Ford (can't remember whether it was a Cortina or an Escort) when the driver got reverse just before the finish line - locked rear wheels, big skid and two bent Fords...

I just found this on another forum:

So I got in today from work, and have a lovely letter from Admiral sitting on my desk.

Letter claims I didn't disclose vehicle mods on my car... that's strange, because I don't have any

Apparently I made an online quote (which I did) after I had bought my insurance. This online quote was just to see how much a new exhaust/air filter would be, I decided not to do it right now and wait a few months...

Admiral however decided it would be best to apply those modifications to my policy, without having them on my car - GO ADMIRAL.

Upon phoning them, I'm told I have to take it to a garage to get written proof it's not modified. I stated it's their assumption, so I will happily do it if they pay for Fuel + Labour time as it's a 350Z not a 60MPG car. They also said this was required to validate my policy against a claim... so how can I drive it to a garage if my policy isn't "valid" at present?

They have said they cannot pay for that, I have 1 day left (tomorrow) when I can cancel my policy within 14 days... what would you do?

There is no way they could actually validate I made that quote online... which scares me greatly. Anyone could get my plate and make a quote against it with mods, and push my premiums up!

so I phoned the fos this morning and filed a formal complaint.

then phoned admiral who caved and took it off but not offered any compensation for their screwup.

will be phoning back tonight demanding 10 percent off my years premium and if that isn't given I'll cancel the policy on the spot within my 14 days. I will then begin to pursue further with the fos to hold them to account.

What a bunch of wankers...

Wow! this is a right issue.

I disclose everything on my car so I'm not bothered on that front, but i do post up photos of work in progress, id like to know if when seeing on facebook photos of all my new bits that il have a bill turn up or the policy cancelled even though i haven't put them in the car and wont until i take the car off the road again.

As its you Sky Insurance you can be rest assured the moment anything changes the phone will ring before i make the changes to make sure i am not voiding it first!

you do cover a show cage and bucket seats dont you?

wish id only put 2k miles on the policy this year - only done 1000

Shame car insurance companies dont put as much EFFORT,or as much DETECTIVE WORK already established in this thread towards fraudulent claims.

as in people who deliberately cause crashes for claims,or whip lash companies that cold call and advertise that you should claim for the slightest of collisions ect ect ect ect ect

undeclared mods should be an issue, but plenty more immediate issues on the top of the list first though, issues that have raised my insurance for no fault of my own,and millions of other drivers

Admiral are a bunch of cunts anyway, they've been using aggressive sales tactics for ages.

Fell out with them 5 or 6 years ago over a policy on one of my Saabs, didn't renew it with them but they "automatically renewed it for my convenience", i.e. they posted me a new certificate I didn't ask for and then tried to charge my card. Unfortunately for them the card had expired, so they then sent a load of threatening letters demanding I post the certificate back followed up by copious 'phone calls. Told them I'd shredded it as I hadn't renewed with them and assumed it was a mistake, still took a 15 minute debate with a call centre manager to get them to leave me alone.

This ^^^.

I will never insure a car again through Adrian Flux for this reason.

You are right of course, people who are above board have nothing to worry about, I'd put 99% of our customers down as 'above board'.

Yes we've got no problem with 'cages or bucket seats, the only modification we do not like is NOS.

These days, if your car is not sorn, it has to be insured. Therefore I would say that technically if your car has been modified (whether it is being driven or not) then you should tell the insurer.

not quite sure why you posted on here with that, that wasnt anything to do with what i was asking, obviously thats the right thing to do, but I'm not really going to be crashing into anyone 5 minutes away from a public road

If someone took an undue amount from my bank on a presumption without calling me first about it, they'd be getting a visit from certain trading organisations and/or solicitors, i'd be pressing for any charge i could, and going for compo on any problems caused as a result. That is absolute theft, not to mention abuse of position, and it can be dealt with. O2 did it, and i gave them absolute hell. At first i didn't mind, took it as a mistake, but then they wouldn't back down so i let rip.

I still advise anyone from going with them, i know they've lost customers thanks to me, and i told them so on the last communication. They lost their claim to the sum in question, too.

if i did have the spare time for this i wouldnt know where to start anyway, and like i said i know its not right but in this instance they were right to do so. so i dont really have a leg to stand on do I, its probably in there small print somewhere anyway

what skyinsurance quoted off another thread is exactly whats happened to me really so i guess thats answered my question, theyve just presumed I've gone ahead with what i had got a quote for, wrong or not they were right so i cant really complain, i just wanted to know how they knew. or thought they knew
