FINALLY. After owning the car for 8 months and for all of that duration saying "I'm going to start working on my car", I'm beginning to work on my car.

Still bog standard at this moment, but I've just ordered some bits and bobs and some 50mm lowering springs. Don't want to go for coilovers just yet as it will kill my insurance (Only had my license 8 month)

Plan on running steelies through the winter, might get them powder coated though as the VW dealer I work at has a good contact

Going to give headlining a go at some stage too.

I'll post some pictures up of how she looks at the moment over the weekend, and hopefully update the thread regular!

P.S I'm a total n00b when it comes to working on cars/mechanics, any advice is appreciated!

Springs have arrived!

My neighbour (Who I didn't actually know used to be a mechanic until today) is going to help me fit them on Sunday. I'll get some pictures posted up then!

Progress is finally being made, hopefully I have no problem with my wheels after fitting them, it's only going down 50mm and my steelies on there are 15". Possibly even 14"...

PI 50mm lowering springs, got them for £75 delivered on eBay

Had a little bit more bother getting these springs on, the bolts etc on the shocks are stiff as anything.

Called it a day, but should be done tomorrow so ill definitely get some pictures up.

So list of stuff done so far:

Front lowered 50mm with back springs still to do

Heko wind deflectors

Number plate LEDs

Still to do:

Debadge 'Polo'

Colour VW badges

Colour code the front grills in diamond black

Colour code the bumper strips in diamond black

Get the steel wheels shotblasted and powder coated for the winter

Buy some nice wheels after the winter

Headlining with some green tartan

If I can source a 9N3 GTi back box then that would be great

is there any chance you could tell me what size spanner I need for the nut at the top of the front struts? I got mine out this weekend but found I didnt have the right size spanner, would be much appreciated

Actually my neighbour handled them with what I believe was an impact gun, they were stuck pretty tight on mate.

From what I read the rear is a lot easier but I guess I'll find out tomorrow

Good progress mate! just a thought, 50mm is quite low to go on springs and keep the standard shocks, nothing to worry about but in the long term they will get a bit ragged, guessing your planning for coilies in the future though?

Yeah just until I can afford coilies on my insurance.

Not sure yet, I've got some bright green vinyl in the garage I was thinking about using on the badges, and was also thinking maybe get the steels done in that colour. Either that or just black.

Front springs are on, was a nightmare but they're on.

Going to leave the back ones until the weekend, then I'll get a nice photo of how she's sitting.

Before I bought the car it must have had a minor bump as the front bumper is out of place. I've been undecided on if I should do anything about it since I got the car. Hopefully the subframe isn't damaged and it's just that the plastic needs heating a shaping back in but even that is risking blistering the paint. Any advice/ideas?

Instead of going for black/green I'm just going for the all black look, '02 plate stealth bomber.

Planned out what I'm going to try and get done next week since I'm off work:

Saturday - Replace front brake discs and pads

Sunday - Fit rear lowering springs

Monday to Thursday - Hopefully go get my steelies shot blasted and powder coated, colour badges and if I can colour code my bumper strips and grills in Diamond Black.

Wheels look good! What size are they?

To be fair though adapters for 5x100-5x112 only cost around £35, get some low profiles on them as well will look sick

OEM all the way!! Adaptors 25mm wide some nice low profiles and your springs will look pretty phat for a 9n

These aren't from a MK6 Golf, they're from a 9N3 Polo so will fit!

14" not 16"s though.

Going to take them to a place tomorrow and ask how much for a refurb, might go with anthracite though... Haven't made my mind up. After that, whack some tyres on and get some spacers sorted for the rears.

Just fitted new discs and pads on the front today, back springs will be on come Sunday then it's focusing on the bodywork!

Both sets of springs are on now and it's sitting nice, dropped my alloys of at Romax in Stockton today and pick them up tomorrow.

Ended up going for anthracite, just need to get a set of tyres then I'll whack them on and get a picture
