I see your point about the fully smooth look Eric, which is why I keep going back to the thought of doing mine. But then I think of how bad it might go! Also your sacrificing a bit of chassis rigidity. Although it's probably not too much to worry about. But then to me the fully smooth look means being rid of everything from the bay, including fuses and everything I have mentioned above.

Why have you made your manifold so long out of interest? You may yet find it too long

just thought id give it a go tbh! if it doesent perform well i can always shorten it. i always end up with a really short manifold on my engines, wanted to see what difference it would make as noone has experimented with different lengths before

It's going to be difficult to workout whether the manifold is givining you gains without trying a few

Of course, but ideally you want several identical runners (bar the lenght) to try out. Longer runners should give you better low down torque, but once past peak, you may find the engine struggling.

The luxury with long runners is that if you find this is the case, you can always chop a bit off and see how that helps. Easier than but welding a longer piece of tube on if you find its too short

We're not all into this smooth empty engine bay fashion, much as it gives you a nice shelf to put your beer and sandwiches whilst polishing whatever's left in there. When I look in an engine bay I wanna see all the stuff that's supposed to be there, not wonder where or why it's been hidden.

Removing the panel opens up the bay and makes it more spacious, practical to work with, and better looking from my engineering perspective.

I'm having serious thoughts of doing it myself, but instead of removing rigidity-assisting strips of spot welded panel and trimming right back to the turrets, I'm likely to just cut away what needs removing, fitting an edge trim over whatever remains.

Bit of a guess as I havnt looked in much detail what the crack is, sure it wouldn't be that simple but maybe worth a bash.

tbh though, it probably would be that simple. haha. just scribe a straight line across it and go easy with a cutting disk.

Thats the best thing to do if your not gonna smooth off where you've cut it out.

Go get a cbr airbox man .. can use that and have a nice cold feed too .. Tbf mine wasnt far off beeing able to fit one

Use tin snips or simular, dont go anywhere near it with a angle grinder, it just makes a mess.

id use a jigsaw personally.
