Hey all!! I'm Ally, yes I'm a girl, don't let the username put you off!!

Henry is my new breadvan, rescued from scrap metal heaven on the 13th December. Roger is my almost completed project, a Mk3 Golf GLI.

Anyways, thought I would start a thread to keep a track of my restoration of Henry and let you people all see my labour of love!

I got a message from a friend telling me there was a breadvan going for scrap for £100, I just had to have it! I agreed a sale before I even saw a photo. Henry arrived the next morning with no radiator, alternator and an eaten cam belt. He also looked like his last drive was through some muddy forest!!

After clearing out all of the half eaten chips and petrol receipts we discovered sponges under the rubber mats in the rear footwells. Pretty scary stuff!! They were soaking! After further investigation we found pools of water all over the floor of the car. Even the spare wheel well looked like a disused fountain!!

So... The first job was to pull all of the soggy interior out, amazed at how easy this was!! Today we pulled all of the carpets out and the centre console and glove box etc. Currently going through a proper detailed clean!! Siphened lots of water out of all the wells!! Not fun sucking a pipe and getting lovely stale mouldy water in your mouth like!! Tomorrow is the cleaning of the floor, pretty solid though which is very pleasing!!

Half of the replacement of the cambelt is stripped, but that bottom pulley is a right bugger to get to!! Hopefully will get that done within the week.

Anyway, here are my pictures so far and I will keep updating as I go along!! Anyone breaking a Mk2 polo, please give me a shout as I need quite a few bits as you will see from the pictures.

Looks like a right shed , just like my polo did lol . Seen an identical bready in the same colour on eBay last month and just missed out on it. Gutted ! I will be following this thread closely . Were bouts in Kent you from ?

The scuttle tray, yes that was full of water, the missing wing mirrors with no holes plugged was an issue too, also the not flush sunroof and the not shutting properly boot. Scuttle tray is cleaned, the wing mirror holes are plugged, going to clean the floor this afternoon and see where the water is exactly coming from.

I'm working hard on Henry under my other halfs supervision, he's older and has lots more dub experience, we won't be paying any garage to do any work for us, other than maybe a friend for a respray. It's going to be a nice cheap resto!!

Personally, I HATE rat!! I like stuff clean!! Plus, ratting it is the easy way out!!

Aww thanks Mike!! Yeah the guy who had it before had it 10yrs, he did nothing but tax and MOT it. He thought sponges under mats would solve the water problem. Funnily enough, I get stressed if my golf has one tiny problem, with the polo I keep finding all these bits and I'm so unfazed!!

You've seen my thread , clean all the way. Just pointing out there's a lot of work there . I think rats are appealing, iff done tastefully lol sounds weird that rat and tasteful but I know what I mean

The only kind of rat I can deal with is beetles with general rust. The ones that look like they've never been painted since new.

Planning on putting a new quarter in. Found a brand new panel for about £35, there's no way it will bash out anyways. That's the one thing I won't be doing is the welding cause I'm crap at it. Luckily my man is top notch at it!!

I'm not going to lie if i saw that at the scrappy i would leave it there bar the steering wheel as those things are going for £50 easy on ebay
