Aww everyone is so down and out on Henry!! He's solid, unlike some I have seen. Can't find any rust anywhere which is rather good as he was really neglected, god knows how long the water had been sat in him. :-(

I'm not going to lie if i saw that at the scrappy i would leave it there bar the steering wheel as those things are going for £50 easy on ebay

That needs lots of love.

I am into good films and music!! Honest!! Hey, I'm wearing a Labyrinth (the film, not the singer!!) t shirt, how much cooler can you get?! Mind that's probably well before your time young one!!

I didn't watch Kevin and Perry :paranoid:

Which answer would you prefer?

:p

Are you being serious right now or you fucking with me? Please tell me you know its from Kevin and Perry

Haha, just looking for the truth here ;)

What are you?! Like seriously, looking at your dp I thought you would be into decent music and good films but I just don't know anymore

Then how have you not seen Kevin and Perry, bearing in mind I love Labryinth, yeah that's right. I'm 18 and love Bowi, you will be sorry when you see my LP collection;) but nothing beats Footloose or Breakfast Club :) although you still have no taste

I am choosing to ignore your off topic related comments now you silly billy, shall I make it back about Henry now?!

All car mats have had a thorough clean, took two evenings, and the gear stick gator has had all 5 holes stitched, probably should have bought a new one but hey, why throw away something repairable? That's what this restoration is all about!!I

Thanks for getting rid of the random non car related gossip!!

Henry is a massive project but we seem to be flying through things at the moment. I didn't expect him to be so easy to work on, my Golf is more complicated, but the only thing that's bugged me is the bottom timing belt pulley but found a hole in the wheel arch which you're supposed to line it up with to undo it? Has anyone done that? Does it work?

Well this is what I sat doing yesterday evening, couldn't get out and do stuff on the car as it was nice and icy by 5pm!!

This was the biggest hole, a right female dog to stitch!!

Two smaller ones, look like cigarette burns

Yet another hole

IMAG1071_zps99e66770.jpg

I found 5 holes in total, one in each panel. Great!!

And here it is all stitched up, I didn't want to throw an original part away if it could be mended!!

And so it's off to clean the interior carpets today as it's still too grim outside to do anything :-(

Familiar dent. I've got one almost identical, on the nearside of my breadvan, going right down to the plastic banana trim.

Good to hear you're committing to saving it.

Hello!

Well done for saving a breadvan.

Gorgeous little cars, will keep an eye on this one, attention to detail like this is what makes show winners ;)

Hi there, yeah the dents are horrible!! My golf has some nasty ones too, but at least Dubs are built to dent and not to crumple!! I towed him up to my garage the other night, it was an adventure!! Shall upload a photo soon :)

We towed Henry with my other dub, Roger, all the way to my workshop, 20 miles away. The ride was a little hard as there's about 1/4 to 1/2 a turns worth of play in the steering wheel but it was fun!! Henry is now sat outside my workshop waiting to be pushed in once all the paying work goes away... not that I'm wishing it away or anything but I really want to get cracked on with turning him into a rolling shell!!

Well, had a bit of success the other day.

After taking Henry apart the engine would only turn 3/4s, was thinking I was going to keep him 100% standard, but kinda given up on that idea for now.

My friend had a mk3 1.3 polo and had been clamped by the DVLA for no tax, naughty boy I know, but I wanted his engine. At 8pm he told me if I went and took the engine out I could have it for free, so a couple of men and me being the princess I am holding the torch, pulled the engine out with basic tools, some rope and some wood in 2 hours. I also got a G40 steering wheel and some G40 lights too, not sure what to do with them other than eBay though?!

The plan for the 2nd March is go and pull the remains of the 1 litre engine out up at the workshop and start sticking the bits I need onto the new 1.3 engine. Taking Henry and Roger (the golf) up to BHP and I've got 3 of my 4 cars on the Kent VW stand, so if any of you guys make it, come and say hello!! I can't make any promises as to how clean Henry will look, I'm thinking I'm just going to say he's 'Rat' for now, until I actually get the money together to get both of the cars painted!!

Will give you all an update next weekend!! Wish me luck!!

Fair play for giving this a go! Looks like most of the men on here would be too scared to take on such a project! He don't look pretty yet but I'm sure the faults ain't actually THAT bad if you say hes solid.

Ah thank you, yes, a lot of the dub boys I know think I'm crazy, but a lot of them think it's amazing and are so jealous I've got a breadvan. I did a quick look on How Many's Left and I found out there's only 104 Polo Countrys on the road. That made me even more determined :)

Aww that's great, I read that article actually, it did give me inspiration. We buy practical classics regularly and we were shocked to see a bready in there!! Hers is very nice. My first car is my Golf GLI and I adore my Golf, but I felt the need to buy a bready too. The VW bug gets under your skin and infiltrates your system until you can't help but impulse buy retro VWs!!

I'm hoping to get the engine into Henry this weekend, the snow has been putting us off unfortunately as the workshop is up a pretty steep hill. Hopefully come Friday he will be running!!

Booked the MOT for the 29th April, hopefully he will pass and be out the same day!!

Well we went up to the workshop this weekend and finally got the new engine up there, you wouldn't believe we've put the engine in the boot of the Golf 3 times and had to take it out because we couldn't get to the workshop but needed the car!!

Unfortunately, the last time it went out, I pulled my sciatic nerve and it's totally buggered me up, back on topic now...

Got to the workshop and pulled the bonnet off, haven't seen poor little Henry for about a month now so it was good to see him.

We got quite a lot out, not too much more to get out of the engine bay but my back let me down and I spasmed and ended up stuck in a 'leaning over engine' kind of way.

Anyways, here's a couple of photos, April the 29th is approaching fast so a day recouperating for me tomorrow and then it's back up on Monday for more stripping!!
