Thanks man :) it's coming off the road for a week or so soon as I need to do a few jobs on it before the MOT.

It's getting a new fuel tank fitted, new handbrake cable fitted as the last on snapped. :(

Not much of an update but the MOT and TAX was due today and I'm officially SKINT! :(

No mot and tax = car off the road = sad Collie.

Snapped the handbrake cable the other day too :(

But on the plus side got busy today underneath her, bought a handbrake which happened to be a 6n one, swapped it for a mk2f one then fitted it, all good again.

Then decided to take the fuel tank off to try and source the leak I had, was a nightmare to get off but sanded it down, found a few, maybe 3-6 tiny holes, a new tank is nearly £70 so I decided as I'm skint I'd give it my FIRST ever go to weld a few patches over the holes and see if I'd have any luck!

Remember this is my first efforts to fix it and this was my first patch. I have no idea what happened here but this was my end product.

Can anyone tell me what's actually going on as I'm fully aware it shouldn't look like this so any help would be appreciated! I'm using a Sealey MightyMIG 150, don't know much about it or either the settings so yeah.

Anyway as expected from my, frankly, shit welding the tank still had a leak and it seemed to just get worse. So scrapped that idea and iv bought a full new tank! That will be fitted Thursday after iv also been to pick up a mates new car, a genuine mk2 jetta GTi 16v.

Thanks for reading chaps and any help much appreciated!

hmm! welding issue is quite interesting?

did you have the gas on?

do you know roughly what settings you had the mig on?

Get more pictures up bro :p

Looks like either next to no continuity or way too low amperage, and a too high wire feed.

Welding isn't exactly something you can just do and expect t it to be even slightly decent. It takes practice and you have to get used to the welder, ie what it does to certain mm of metal at certain ampage and certain speed.

I'd never in a million years go at a petrol tank when I've never welded before.

You need to practice on some spare metal, and I mean lots of practice.

It was screwed anyway mate, (the tank), it was all cleared of any petrol fumes etc so it basically was scrap metal and well I thought I'd just give it a shot! Somebody has said to me it's too much wire and not enough heat but hey, it's all about learning!

Cheers for the comments guys and il keep the updates coming! Will have a new tank tonight aswell ready to go on Thursday then it's MOT time. :D

Another quick update, have some new shoes on order for next week to go on her! they're pirelli p-slots, fully repainted with new tyres for £80, another bargain id say :) They're nothing special but I personally think they suit the car down to the ground!

Update time. Got the new fuel tank on today which I got for £30, after all the shit weather we've had I finally got it done!

No more leaky :D

MOT and TAX will be tomorrow so, fingers crossed for el polo'! :)

Well it failed the mot but its not all bad news as it only failed on a single brake pad, horn being disconnected and number plate needs putting on the new bumper. Nice day job and she'll be back on the road in no time!
