Clean, original mk2 Golf CL. Extremely low mileage.

Very early model for a mk2. This means you get the good bits. 6 slat chrome grille, chrome small bumpers, small quarter light mirrors. It is an extremely classic looking Golf.

The only changes to the exterior are the wheels, which are VW Montreal 6x14" as fitted to early GTIs.

I have owned this car for 2 years and spent a lot of time and effort getting it to run as well as it does now.

The only engine upgrade from standard is a Weber DMTL, replacing the troublesome Pierburg. I can't tell you how much of a difference this has made to how the car drives. The carb was tuned and re jetted on a rolling road in September 2012 by Circuit Motors at Castle Combe. I have all the data and printouts from the week the car spent with them here:

71bhp and smooth torque (factory quote 55bhp). Runs so well and no oil leaks from the rocker or head gasket by the alternator, which is a common fault on the small block VW engines.

It has a whole host of new parts on it including a completely renewed ignition system. Battery, points, condenser, leads, coil, cap and rotor.

The cambelt and water pump have been done, as have all 3 engine mounts and the fuel pump.

In terms of bodywork it is not a show winning concourse car but is remarkable for a car of its age. No rational person will be disappointed with the condition I am sure of that. The paint gleams when polished and there is no rust in the usual Golf places such as the windscreen and fuel filler cap. The odd stone chip and a couple of very minor scabs (rear valance, lower front wings) are the only flaws.

The interior is good. Carpets and upholstery have no rips or burns and the plastics are shiny. The fabric of the front door cards is coming away as the glue holding it on has given up but everything else is immaculate.

There is a Pioneer head unit with aux in but I still have the original AM tuner stereo for the new owner.

Overall a great base for a project or a really interesting easy to work on runabout with cheap running costs.
