256mm brake conversion

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I currently have the 239mm vented brembo disc set up and rear disc conversion on my mk3 polo coupe, was wondering if the 256mm brake set up would fit on my car as I have 14" wheels on?

Cheers guys

Will be fine with 14". What method are you using to get 256s? Vauxhall set up?

yes it should fit - a quick way to tell is to measure the space inside the wheel (diamter) as the 256 setup would require 256mm + caliper thickness + a nice gap between the disk - caliper and caliper - wheel.

I assume it would be the vauxhall setup you would be looking at?

I've not looked at the vauxhall set up as yet, I've just been offered some mk2 golf 16v calipers so would need the Rocco carriers to bolt onto my hub but there kind of rare so just wanting to know if they fit before looking into which set up to use, I've heard people using the Audi 80 calipers and the Lucas 54 carriers but not properly looked into it yet.

these are 256x20 mm vauxhall astra gte callipers and carriers. but these are for me aha, easier to come by that old audi carriers ect

These look nice mate :) how much do a pair of these go for mate? And do the carriers fit onto the mk3 hub?

I've got a few of the calipers and carriers etc from a 2l calibra with the 256mm set up. Didn't o anyone looks for them on here!

Yes, the bolt spacings are the same but IIRC you need some fancy bolts with a fancy shank/shoulder. All in the FAQ (good luck finding rocco 16v or Audi 80 carriers)

Mk2 Golf 256mm Discs

Cavalier 256mm Carriers + Calipers (Found on loads of big engined cars e.g Astra GTE, Cavalier SRi, Omega V6 loads)

Cavalier brake pads

Vauxhall Opel Omega B brake flexi

Bolts:12mm Diam x 25mm Shoulder Bolts. As they're 12mm diam the threaded section comes in the next std metric size down, M10 Coarse, (Which is correct thread to fit the mk1 Hubs). Length of threaded section is a std length based on thread so don't worry about that.

I did it for £50.

EDIT: I stole the bolt info and pic from the thread on the Mk1 Golf Owners Club - Respect to the original people who figured it out.

i got these for £35 delivered off a breaking astra on ebay, then you buy them bolts above with thicker sleeves 4 x M10 x 25mm shoulder bolts on ebay, pence they was.
