[Guide] Component speaker fitting guide Polo 6n2 (HD Pic heavy)

So after many a search of how to go about installing new component speakers (as well as running new cable through the door and fitting bigger tweeters) I've made my own picture guide.

It might not be the best install as i forgot to take a couple of pictures during some stages as i didn't intend to make it so I've borrowed some pictures from other guides and compiled them with mine.

Pop off door handle cover,

Pull handle and pries off top half with a thin screwdriver,

Work your way down the handle with the screwdriver popping off the three clips and bottom big round clip (be careful not to snap the bottom of the cover like i did :( )

Simply unscrew these 2 screws.

Remove this screw too.

Unscrew by hand the door pin.

Can be done by hand or use a screw driver to pries off door card from the pop on clips behind all the way around the edge of the door.

Pull door handle as if you are opening the door and pull up and away over the door lock pin (be careful of the cables attached between the door and door card)

*Advisable to rest door card on something raised off the ground whilst disconnecting the connectors*

Passenger door only has the 1 connector

Drivers door has 5 connectors

Simply unscrew the original speaker and un-clip the connector and tuck the original cable out of the way.

Here you want to pop off the cable holder that's circled in green as it will obstruct deep speakers

And AVOID attaching or obstructing anything that's highlighted in the red as it is the runner for the electric window.

Unscrew these 3 screws inside the glove box

3 more screws under the passenger foot well.

Not sure if this is needed to be taken out, but i did just in case.

Good place to keep all your screws.

Pull back the dashboard to reveal the space behind.

It's not a good angle for a drill but i managed to do it.

The area behind the hole was clear, it was just foam.

Seal gap with silicone filler.

Small hands are needed (and patience) to feed the cable through from behind the dash.

Unfortunately i had to make an incision into the rubber,

Pull it out as much as possible and either carefully snip or stick a sharp screwdriver through it.

Reach though the speaker hole and grab pushed cable from the door.

Next to take this out to acsess screw behind

Next, push in, twist clockwise and pull out.

Remove screw.

Remove this too, underneath light switch.

Again, remove these screws.

Underneath the steering wheel screw to access another screw.

Screw behind wheel.

3 more screws under steering wheel (Yes i know, i need to sort out the cable route to the amp)

**** Passenger Side + Drivers Side ****

Pierce through door foam with long cable ties (this place looked like the only place where they wouldnt get squashed behind the door card)

Squeeze your hand through and reach behind to bring back in the cable ties.

Fasten as so.

Pierce holes for cables and secure in place.

Remove screw holding the tweeter case in.

Make sure this is still attached here,

Remove the foam and then melt the plastic and pries the speaker away with a screw driver.

Use a 45mm - 1+3/4" hole saw to drill out the speaker

Secure and drill

Finished result

Cut out Foam.

Pierce holes to slide in mount (for my particular mount)

Cut down mount to fit in the foam

Slide inside foam.

Seat inside mount and bring cable through the gap.

Fit back together and put cable in cable grip.

Finished result.

Screw back to the door and crimp the cable to the speaker cable to your crossover box.

Originally i bought a pair of SAK-3102 VW POLO 165MM FRONT SPEAKER ADAPTER KIT, but after taking the door card off to see how they fit, it turned out they already had them fitted (must be standard)

My speakers were still too deep so i made my own collars to pack them out.

There was a template on my speaker box to get the sizes to cut.
