Dont even go there!! haven't a clue why its out, think I'm gona end up stripping the alternator and building it back using bits from my spare (i.e the bit i chopped off)

been working on mine tonight, almost ready to go in now!!!

one question though, how did you manage to fit the mk2 starter!!!??? i spent about an hour trying to get it on, but it seems to foul on the block and it's about 5mm out of line with the holes in the gearbox? HEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!

Have a look at renagades440 thread. he has had the same problem with his starter. I guess I was just lucky. it bolted straight on.

Which one bolted straight on? The pre-'93 ones will not fit against the 6n block. The last MK2F's had unique starters and this must be what you have.

I just used the 6n 1.0-1.6 flywheel,also fitted to the Golf ABD,they all seem to be the same.

It came from the original engine from the car (1990 Coupe S). At the time I was fitting it I had no idea that there could be issues. So I must have just been lucky it fitted

1.4 16v on carbs really put a smile on your face dont they! I've not had mine rolling roaded just a quick set up at work and it seems to fly! i just love second gear in it!

if you dont mind i know its long ago but when you did the gt swop did you fit the mk3 gt fuse box.

me mk2 sallons a 1.0l so a bit weedy

its running 13 inch smoors very low retro rack etc ill post some pics

Yep I swapped the whole of the wiring and the fuse box. The GT conversion is a good one to do :)

Quick update.

Well not really much to update. Car is going strong and have now done 4 track days with it.

The only issue has/is the fuel pump location with it being above the level of the tank and heat soak. Heat soak has been dealt with by some ducting and a fan.

I'm going to move this to under the rear of the car and it should sort it all out.

Did a week long camping road trip to Scotland in as well. And apart from an exhaust meeting ferry issue all was great!

Well its starting again...

So on the list of works to do:

Body Work / Interior:

Investigate any hidden rust under plastic covers. (Sills)

Know rust for repair;

Both rear wings and petrol filler location

Front wings (bolt on/off)

Rear valance

Small amount of surface on lower doors

Strip the sound deadening out

Re-carpet car

Build speaker pods

Replace leather gear gater and knob

Flock Dash (maybe)

Buy a bucket seat and subframe

Both road and track wheels refurbished

Re-Spray in original colour and re-add the pin striping

Chassis:

Fit lower subframe (not wishbone conversion)

Change all rubber bushes and mounts (they have had a hard life)

Wheel bearing

Build and fit roll cage with harness bar

Fit rear anti roll bar (if one gets made)

Engine:

Relocate fuel pump

Replace fuel lines

Cool Air feed/Airbox (Maybe?)

Check centre box for wear

Electrical:

Check the wiring looms.

Re-Wire fuel pump switch.

Re-Wire Radio and speakers.

Fit Fuel Pressure gauge

Re-fit Oil Pressure gauge

Started stripping the seats to make the sub frames

Take 1 seat

Put it on its back

Lift the plastic trim at the side and remove the clip

Pull it off the stub

Do the same on the other side and remove the back rest.

Undo the pin holding the seat cover at the back

go round unhooking the clips

Pull the cover and the sponge off

and here you go

Next just grinding off the welds to the internal sheeting and mocking some mounts.

read the whole thread and made an interesting read, top efforts mate and nice car, modded in all the right ways. audi rims make it look tough they suit it. makes me want to get on with mine mk3 poss afh it! rusts a pain i have same issues

Torque and power. The engine is 100bhp at the fly at standard.. this does 126 according to the RR :) Not actually sure what AFH produces torque wise as standard but this got 111lbft.

She's awesome! I'm used to driving a mapped Leon Cupra R lowered with ARBs etc etc and I've never grinned so much behind the wheel! People actually let me out at junctions and wave and stuff! She's like new, I'm really impressed with her.

Actually, maybe you can help me with a suspension conundrum, I've been looking at different setups but don't want to lose all comfort as she'll be the daily and will have to do speedbumps etc. I can see that yours is probably a bit more of a track setup, but what would you recommend for a daily? I'm not afraid to spend a bit of money on it.
