Engine is out!!!

That just leaves the wiper motor, the heater fan and the engine bay wiring loom. Will call the bodyshop this week and see if I can book her in in the next couple of weeks :)

I have to say.. Brake Cleaner.. is there anything it can't do??

it was great for getting all the tar stuff off the back of the car (only left side done in picture)

Removed the heater system...

Jobs for tomorrow

- Remove Door windows

- Remove Door latches

- Remove interior loom (maybe)

- Remove side rubbing strips

- jet wash and de-grease the whole car

Did more bits and bobs today

Took the side strips off

Cleaned the bay.. still have to do the scuttle area

Removed the interior wiring loom

all that as meant my garage is like

More cleaning tomorrow.. oh joy! :)

Its the polos last night at home tonight. Tied up the boot and the bonnet and going to tie up the doors tomorrow,

Well I'm heading over to the bodyshop to morrow for my first day working on it. Should be fun!

When to the workshop today. Started by working on the wing.

Taking off all the surface rust with a die grinder and all the edges to make sure they are ok. Also stated doing the Slam panel as well

Mike.. the other guy who is working on the car removed the spare wheel well.. sorry no pictures of that.

Heading back there in 2 weeks after Goodwood.

Went to Vanfest as well today and got ideas/quotes for the headlining and carpet!

Another morning at the body shop.

going a bit further with the wings to see if there are any problems. This one had some filler in it to fill the small dent.

This is the rear valance repair and the new wheel well.

it will be smoothed down before paining.

This was totally hidden. even I didn't know it was there. As he was sanding it down a bubble was getting bigger and bigger and it just burst with a load of water in it.

Yep, its a squash ball. A yellow spot one to be precise! :)

Well I spend 4 hours at the bodyshop each saturday morning working on it so work will be slow but consistant.

Things that I'm going to do over the next few weeks thats not body related:

Paint the new fuel tank with Por15

Make dial pod for the Oil temp and Pressure

Build speaker pods for speakers

..and learn how to use fibreglass :)

Another morning at work! It was just me today which was rather nice and satisfying. The tasks where to strip back the rear arches.

Yes that is another hole. It seems this arch was worse than I thought.

it seems water was sitting in the rear chassis rail. All this will have to be taken back.

The other arch which is the worse one.

The main problem with rusting is the whole you see. This whole was a metal tube which the fuel tank breather pipe runs though. This get filled with mud and just rots!

A lot of the inner arch had gone.. :(

Done a google search last week on putting bucket seats into a mk2 and somehow came across your topic on fc, then just recognised your avatar on here and looked through your topics to find this.

Started by making up the line for cutting..

This is the breather pipe for the tank. Its what has caused all this. As you can see half is missing and its cause a load of rust.

That is the other side of this

So it would appear that I need to do some work here. I'll have to check what access I have on the inside if not it means some of the quarter panel is coming off. :(

Hope you can find a quarter if you need to go that far. There was a rumour that VW still had them in stock at around £150. How true this is, is another question!

Well its part rumour. They are on back order but the price is £300!

I have a complete coupe rear quarter, one of the sell off stock jobs. Was going to use to chop and convert square to round but using golf arches now. If you need drop me a pm.

Which 3m pads do you use that fetch the underseal off best, used various but got to order more!!!
