an exhaust that hangs lower than mine! front wheels look too close to the arch though, looks sorta broken

this mk2 is looking sweet though, cant help but think the profile on the tyres should be 55 though, but then i suppose your keeping the rr as close to standard then, also the rear wheels need to be spaced 8 or 10mm in my opinion, as i said looks really sweet and retro though

haha... yeah it got caught on a Ferry in Scotland. but the new one that is on is superb.... seriously its tucked so high up that you can no see it.. epic.

Yeah they are kinda period. Could look better with lower profiles on but then I would have to lower it as well and then the wife would shout at be for it being 2 low!

Eventually it will probably get a subframe if I could get one custom made, Hight Adjustable dampers, and a 1.6 GTI/AHF hybrid engine running ITB's but thats a long way off.. :)

The wife is great.. she really is. There isn't many people who would put up with 2 project cars and me spending loads of time on here with the shows and stuff...

I was only 1 point from Vic's mk1 so it did ok :) I think if I take some time and clean the inside and show the car properly I think it could do well. perhaps BVF or something like that!! :-D

well you are not far off the next plans.

Subframe, Diff, ITB on a 1.6/AFH Hybrid and decent height, bump/rebound dampers/springs

but all this will be next year/winter as I think the wife is ready to kill me! :)

More immediate things to do are:

- fit rear brake regulator

- 4 wheel alignment and work out why the pass wheel is so far forward! :)

- get the radio/Cig lighter working

- fit the front speakers

- get the rear arch/boot carpeted and some sound deadening put in.

- Get it re pin stripped

... oh and BVF is booked! :)

Dont take this the wrong way, but the reason i didnt vote (i was super close to though) is because as much as its absoloutely mint and iappreciate the work gone in, nothing apart from the interior really wowed me, the interior is the best on this forum IMO, but as much as i like the rest, its not crazy enough for me lol. I do love it though!

Fair play for only coming within one point! It does deserve it

Mark, the car is wonderful. I wish id asked you more about it amongst the casual chat at the show as you have done so many of the things that are on my list and done them properly.

It really does look like a factory limited special (I mean in the good way - not a goofy decal and a stupid name). Sometimes the most subtle mods are the most time and effort consuming - but they also give the most satisfaction.

Once i find out what BVF is ill try to sort out being there and maybe pick up some hints and tips etc. Well done its a credit to you.

The period mahle alloys, Mk1 Golf GTI interior fabric, perforated headling, etc.. I know these Span a decade but I think it still works :)

Dealer number plates with the correct VW period font, Tax disc holder and Dealer sticker!!

Some people at the polo show about the dealer W. Croxford (cars) ltd. Yes the car was originally sold by my dad's uncle's VW and Audi dealership in Kidderminster. It was my uncle (who also worked at the same dealership) who put my dad and brother in touch with the 1st owner who was selling it. That was back in 1997 and we paid 2000 for it then and my brother 'donated' it to me in 2005.

That's a cool bit of history there Mark. I would kill to have some replicas made of my cars dealer plates as they were lost when the first owner sold the car as it had a private plate on it from new (TSD 996). I do actually know of a G reg Polo Saloon that was sold by the same dealer a few months before mine, I really need to get in touch with the guy as his still has the dealer plates and window sticker. I would love to own TSD 996 too.
