My Polo Coupe S - Project Part deux

Featured Replies

Yeah the make of them is an aftermarket make as genuine AFH pistons are made by Kolbenschmidt same as the bearings.

Can i ask why your using the ARC bottom end surely it has no benefit over the AFH as it has no oil squirters but has the down side of the idler pulley thread being wrong and the head bolts being a problem too. Also with the AFH block and head you know the head gasket is perfect and matches both sides properly.

The main reason I was going to as it was going to be a totally standard ARC bottom end and it still might. It does have the oil squirters, and the head bolts and idler pulley has been dealt with.

Oh right didn't realise the ARC had the squirters too

I know you had dealt with the other two problems

Just wondered why you had started with that block as I knew you were rebuilding it anyway

So could have just rebuilt the parts in an AFH block but makes sense now

You're doing the same as me Mark!

I really dont like this car at all...

I love it and what effort that has gone in to this little polo shows that this should be on the road for many years to come

Haha yeah I think you might get there first as you see to be storming along with yours. I might actually be copying you on the sump as well. If I stick with my current tyres and suspension I should be ok clearance wise but I want the option to run lower profile tyres and some lower suspension. So I might as well do it now.

You really don't know how close you were from being banned!!

Cheers. Yeah that's the whole idea. I'm never going to sell it so I thought I might as well try and do a proper job!

Hurry up and put that cam cover to use!

Well I've done it!!!

Managed to read your build thread from beginning to end while at work today! What a great read and what a journey you have had with this car, I had no idea before I started reading. Great effort and well done, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread from now on.

Hopefully it will keep me motivated to keep cracking on with my G40 project.

Now how do I justify the last 4 hours on my timesheet.....?? :paranoid:

Oh, so this Polo is yours? It's incredible. Real clean and oem like I love them.

Btw, that front grill is new? Where do you guys get parts? Some kind of things are really rare to find here in Portugal. The only way is getting them from the internet, and I don't know good websites for that, unless ebay.

  • Author

Yes it is.. cheers :)

Lots of parts either come from here or eBay. The grill is a brand new VW from eBay.

Boxed up all the engine parts... this equals a nice pile of awesomeness
