I think they are great. These are my 2nd set. :)

I was going to get those pads but they're not legal on post 99 cars :(

really?? how come?

It's to do with EU rules, if the pads are not within +/- 10% of the original manufacturers retardation spec then they are not legal on post 99 vehicles for road use :( perfectly OK for track use. The fact that those pads are probably 15~20% better than original makes no difference.

That must be almost impossible to check/enforce

Is this saying that there is around 10% or greater less meat on the pad, so the dimensions mean that where the original pad would have been x wide and still had Y material Marks pads could be on the metal?

As Mark says, probably all hut impossible to enforce. As Mark's car is so well looked after, I can't see him getting down to metal. (if that's what its about)

No it's to do with the friction provided, it has to be within the 10% of oem to be legal, but I agree it'll be difficult to enforce, just sods law your in an accident and they do a full check of the car and find the pads are not correct I think they have to have a R99 stamp on them to be OK

Rear suspension time, gave all the bolts a good soaking but I didn't really need to as I greased the bolts up before I refitted them after the rebuild

I think these were past their best

New dampers and springs fitted

IMG_20150604_212821.jpg

I cut down the new bump stops down about 40mm as they where 'standard' lengths

Next bleeding the brakes

It really does sit much lower on the front now. not sure it will stay as it might be a bit too low to be usable. Bearing in mind I'm old now!! :-D

and thanks to Gaz I now have a fully secure spare wheel!! :-D

Cheers!! :) Well... I've only driven it a short distance... but its noticeably firmer than the old G40 dampers and Eibach springs. Going to head down to Diva Dubs on Sunday so that will be its first proper outing with the new suspension. But I already have started looking at the Bilstein B12 kit which comes with Eibach 40mm springs so if I do change it It will be towards the end of the year. :)

Well went to to get the car alignment done today.

IMG_20150613_144556.jpg

Left with out it being aligned! :) Attachments fitted the wheels fine, and they were not fazed by the 1 side adjustment. It was more that they couldn't get the inner tie rod loose and there was really limited access. They were happy to have another go and I'm going to remove the catch tank so they can get access to it from the top.

HnR's not working out?

As for the alignment I feel your pain.

I was there nearly two hours with them trying to adjust - a pain to get to especially if like my car it hadnt been touched in many years.

  • Author

H&R's actually seem good, I've only done a few miles with them and the tracking is out. But its firm yet comfortable. My worry is more of the US road tips when I'm loaded down with stuff I think 60mm at the front might be pushing it. I just don't want any sump contact, as over there in the middle of nowhere that could be a real problem.

Access to the inner is a piece of piss, just stick it in a right hand lock and it's all there if you go from the top. Worst case, if the outers free, undo the inner end out of the bracket on the rack and spin it off the end, then free it off in the vice.

  • Author

Oh yeah it's easy for them/me to do. Just not it the 30min window they had for the tracking. And they had another car after mine booked in. So I'm going to make it easy for them :)

Some part of mine was sized and the room didnt allow use of a better leverage tool.

Yeah, my HnR kit puts mine low.

Well a lot has has happened in a week. Sam has decided that the suspension is not great.. and to be honest so have I. The ride quality is good but its rather low and too firm for road tripping. Huyi also was of this opinion as heading out to Diva Dubs she decided she didn't want to start due to the starter motor not engaging. This lead to....

So thats suspension off, Engine out, gearbox off, Flywheel off, flywheel on. Gearbox on, starter motor on, suspension on, engine in. New inlet gasket and done!

A diva moment before Deva Dubs. How apt!
