Great thread this, much respect for giving the effort

Noticed one slight thing that needs correcting on the pic below, as i've recently done this:

You have the red/yellow and yellow/white wires labelled the wrong way round on the mk3 pin locations

Basically you need to remove 3 pins from the white socket that plugs into the back of the fuse box. These 3 cables lead to yellow sockets (see below) so they are easy to identify

As you can see I have marked out the pins you need to remove. You can probably demolish the plug to do this. The bottom one is the lead that goes to the fuel pumps via the yellow sock bellow

Can you just explain what you mean? Do you mean that The wire colours are Yellow in the middle row, White/Yellow in the top row and Red/Yellow in the bottom row (i.e the predominant colour first?) or the top ones are the fuel pump and the bottom the Diag Port?

I was quite sure that this was correct...

On the pic, where you have labelled red/yellow wire, fuel pump, should be yellow white wire, diagnostic port, and vice versa. You can nearly see the red/yellow wire going to that pin in the pic.

This thread has been very useful though for those who wanted to do all this but were afraid to ask, and now 5 pages long! :-D

Well...... It failed... but only on 1 thing :-) . The handbrake didn't work. The adjuster screw was fouling the handbrake bracket. Which seems weird as it was working when i dropped it off. But i replaced it today and it was all bent up, Fuck know how it happened. Its going in again on Tuesday for the retest, and then hopefully the wheel alignment on Wednesday. I am replacing all the rear brakes (shoes and drums) and bearings on Saturday as they are well passed their best (tbh I am surprised they said they were ok with some of the weird noises they are making) :)

Didn't say anything about the hole..

Well here are a couple of pics of things that I have done this week.

Firstly I have replaced the rear brake lines as I snapped one when trying to undo them. Replacing them was not as bad as I thought it would be.

I also fitted the rear exhaust section.

and then Tuesday night I was out bleeding the brakes for the MOT

As I have said it failed the MOT on the handbrake which has now been replaced. I have also splashed out of new drums, shoes and bearings which I am getting the garage to fit as I don't have time to do it myself.

Thats it for now :)

Its going in for its re-test on tuesday and Hopefully I can get the tracking done as the same time.

Today I gave it a clean as I haven't done so for about 6 months..

I also test fitted the wheels the fonts fit fine with no spacers required but the rears are fouling on the spring cups so I'll need 20mm spacers on the back. Anyone know anywhere local to Leamington/Coventry that has these? I'm after hubcentric ones.

Not sure on spacers, nowhere in leam does them, maybe in cov somewhere.

Well I have in my possession a nice green MOT!!! Party on Wayne!!!!

Also I picked up some spacers today I amd going to fit them tomorrow and hopefully the rears will be fine!!

Way Way too much but I was desperate.... £70. You can get them much cheaper but They couldn't get them in time so I was over a bit of a barrel.

Yeah a couple:

Front exhaust touching the ARB

ARB touching the Gearbox

Slight blow from the exhaust

and no rear seats.. (humm I was wondering what was suppose to be in the back!! :) )

Well I have had more comfortable drives :) But it seems to handle nice. I just have to get out all the screws and stuff that are rolling/bashing around to quieten it down a bit! :)

The car was great. No problems as such just some wheel bolts coming loose :)

I do need to get some bucket seats and some harnesses though as they didn't really hold me in that well.

:) It was good fun.

It wasn't in competition we just hired the course for the day. I took mine along with me but it really wasn't needed. I think I only managed to hit a top speed of 60 by the end of the straight and the track actually carries straight on so there really isnt anything to hit.. :)

Its at Curborough. Its only a short course 30-40 sec per lap so it doesn't give you much time to think and it gives the car a good work out :)

I was experimenting with lines....

Well the things that I would like to do:

Chip

Exhaust and Manifold

Cam

Inlet Manifold

Heat Shield and cool air intake

---(should hopefully see 90+bhp)

Fibre Glass Bonnet + Boot with Perspex rear window

light weight bucket seats with harnesses

Umm I think that's it.

I'll start with the simplest and cheapest stuff first but bucket seats and harnesses are really needed.

Had the day off work today so I Thought I would set about wiring up the rev counter. This info came from Steve aka 86c, Cheers :)

First of all take the leads off the battery as you will be messing with the coil.

Then remove the wheel and shroud

This was easily done as the wheel nut is not really on too tight and the shroud is held in with 2 screws at the top and clips at the bottom

Remove the pod by undoing the 2 screws at the top. You will have to reach round and pull out the speedo cable which should give you enough room to reach round and remove the wiring plug.

The back of the dials look like this

You will see that the tab at the bottom where the plug plugs into has all the devices labelled... kinda.. :)

The Rev counter is Pin 5 or KL1

Its the cable that is red with a black tracer as shown here.

Run a cable from the coil in the engine compartment through the bulk head and up behind the dash. You will then have to cut the the wire that goes into the plug (give your self a good few inches.) Attach the wire you have fed through to the one you have just cut. Soldering them together then using some heat shrink would be the best solution.

Once you have done that attach the other end of the cable to point 1 on the coil (under the flap). I would recommend you use one of those connectors with the hole in it rather than just wrapping it around the terminal (but I am sure it would work fine :) )

The put it all back together and then this should happen..
