Sorry only just realised you posted! doh! No worries :)

Well some updates..

Well I have made a cold air shield out of a sheet of Aluminium. Its not 100% perfect and it could do with some changes but its not bad.

0805060001.jpg

Fitted my bucket seat and modified the Mk2 golf subframe

0805140003.jpg

Fitted my oil pressure gauge

0805140004.jpg

And today I have fitted new pads and discs

0805140002.jpg

and today I have finally got my exhaust to sound how I want.

0805200002.jpg

0805200006.jpg

I have also purchased a fire extinguisher I thought it would be wise to get one.

DSC00567.jpg

Its going to be mounted behind the drivers seat for now but I think I'll be removing the centre console so I think I'll make a bracket up to mount it there.

Exhaust looks awesome and you cant beat custom :-) Outward rolled too 8-)

Well my car keeps playing up since the conversion. Ironing out all the problems slowly.

Glad yours is going good though.

Well long time no update.

Quite a bit has been done to the car no big things but lots of little things.

The car has been on a few track days and a Nurburgring trip sold a few parts and added a few parts.

here are some pictures as everybody likes them!

At Curborough in May

Gave the car a clean in June

0806150011.jpg

Then took it on a RR

0806290003.jpg

th_0806290004.jpg

Made 88bhp

Purchased some wheels and refurbished them

2008-11-0914-26-12_0012.jpg

Which are now for sale!! ;)

And had a little trip to Germany.

20080907touri0317-1800x1200.jpg

This pretty much brings it up to date.

The suspension is now running the G40 shocks with Eibach 40mm springs which has stopped the front end lift at 85+mph. The bucket seat has been sold and the front seats are now Corrado ones. This was a must for the Germany trip as I would have killed myself with the bucket seat on the 1500mile trip we did.

Now Ever since Germany I have been toying with getting more power. I've been looking at getting 100bhp and there have been a few ways of doing it P&P the GT head and add a cam (which I purchased and sold). This tied with an 1.4 ABD bottom end should give the 100+bhp I am after. All was going well until I got thinking again. That would really be the limit of the engine with out spending stupid money on it. So what else...

Well lots of reading and researching the 1.4 16v AFH seems to fit the bill :)

So thanks to Guz I now own this

DSC00712.jpg

Currently this has been stripped down ready for the cam belt change. And thanks to Mr DKnight I have all the parts I need to replace them

These were easy to remove

DSC00740.jpg

But the bottom pully was a bitch of a job.

DSC00736.jpg

But with a long ass breaker bar it finally was shifted!

Picked up a GT box

DSC00742.jpg

I couldn't decided whether to use a GT box or the 8P box. I'm going to see how it goes on the GT one as I think it will be a bit of a hoot!

Hopefully I'll be picking up a flywheel in the next week or so which will get lightened and balanced.

Also I have got a set of these to deal with the fuelling.

DSC00745.jpg

Shown with the cambelt kit.

Need to get them set-up and a manifold made. Either going see if Bogg Brothers can do this or getting a someone local to do it.

For the wiring I am going to use the engine bay loom from my old Coupe S engine and also all the ignition parts.

Umm I think that's all folks for now!

good update, if HEG123s car is anything to go by this will fly. whats your timescale on the build? summer?

Hopfully, but it wont be a near as powerfull as I know he has some uprated cams on there. I'm just happy will break the 100bhp barrier.

I'm hoping around May time for Plymouth Volks Fest.. or eailer if possible. I just need the inlet manifold making up and I need a new exhaust manifold as well.

hay m8 can i ask what brake hose did u use , was it for a mk2 golf or they polo ones

Umm I am pretty sure they were polo ones, but you can use the ones from the Mk1 Golf as well. And possibly the Mk2.

Absolutely brilliant!

Hi Mark,

Good to see this updated, it's looking good.

I think the AFH conversion is the right move for the sort of car you're building. The AFH is willing to rev a fair bit in standard trim, with the bike carbs and a decent four branch it should make a reliable 120bhp or so. I also reckon the GT box with its lower final drive is better suited to the engine you're building.

Can you not try and fabricate your own manifold and then get it welded up? I've heard some good things about Bogg Brothers, the products are good. However, some things are not so good such as their poor communications and people waiting for ages to receive the goods.

Good luck with it and keep us updated,

Cheers,

Richard.

Hi Richard..

Cheers :) If it makes that much then I would be well chuffed!! :)

Yes I have been told the GT box would be good on it.

I did think about about getting a local place make one up for me and I have some one asking at a few places for me. Yeah I heard the same about Bogg Brothers. Really good stuff and bad stuff. Advantages of using them is they will make a really nice manifold and set all the carbs up so they should work OK from the outset. I have heard though, that there is about a 3 month wait. I'll give them a bell tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanks :)

Mark

Liking how this is shaping up Mark

Cheers

Cheers Pete :)

Well I have finally got round to fitting the cam belt.. which was fun!

Not having a haynes manual meant it was guess work to remove and fit it. Not really a problem as its normally straight forward.

Removing was easy. set all the marks and undo things.

100_0684.jpg

The water pump was then replaced and so were the idler wheel and tensioner.

After trying to work out how to clamp the cam pulleys in place... (Cable ties) I set off fitting the new belt. After a bit of struggling I managed to get it on or so I thought. The belts were slack and the timing marks were out as you can see below.

100_0686.jpg

100_0687.jpg

100_0688.jpg

100_0689.jpg

It was then I Realised I had Autodata on my laptop so after a quick search I found this :)

0954_001.jpg

0954_003.jpg

So finally the cam belt is on, all nice and snug with the timing marks lining up and no slack in the belt.

Job done!

I have also spoke to a company about an inlet manifold which they said they could do no problem. So I'm sending my carbs up to them in the next week or so.

Your car looked really good too :)

Mark..

quality! cheers mate even though it was filthy haha

car is mint!

Car looks great :) Hopefully Ill see it at Plymouth Volksfest, thats in my neck of the woods.

Quick question, in what way did you modify the mk2 Golf subframes to fit the Polo? They usually sit too high dont they?

Cool... look forward to that.

Yeah they tilt forward. I cut off the flat uprights that sits in the runners and then cut down the upright it self and then welded the flat uprights back on. simple... kinda :)

Yes that's right... I have bought some more wheels! :)

DSC00755.jpg

13x6 Speedline's with an offset of 33 that should fit the car nicely. They are going to be re-painted in gun metal grey.

But I have had to sell the AllyCats which were sold last night on egay just waiting for him to contact me.

awsome project love reading the whole lot keep it up makes me want a coupe

Finally make my engine mount bracket up.

100_0880.jpg

Not too pretty but it seems to do the job. Took a couple of mm off the existing bracket to allow for the steel plate.

Tried to get the pulley off the alternator so I can swap it for the one that comes on the the 16v one. Wasn't budging so I though I would coat it in WD40 and call it a day.
