The top 3 bolts are the bolts out of my mk2 engine. I'm looking to get some bolts for the bottom 2. I think they are M10 1.5.

Alternator and pulley is on.

I've used 2 30mm M10 bolts to secure the bottom fixing plate.

Next step is to find a appropriate alternator belt and send the flywheel off to be balanced and lightened.

Once the nut was off it was easy, it just slides off. But getting the nut off was a pain, but I remembered that I have a battery powered impact wrench so with that it just came off very easily :)

Nice little tip there, i guess ill have to find an impact wrench. Got the 1.3 out of mine last night so need to start looking at the engine mount. Do you have any more pictures?

Also, I'm planning on using the 8p box, what flywheel are you running?

I'm using a standard Mk2/3 flywheel and GT clutch with the GT box.

Picked up the flywheel last week.

They took a kg off, so now it weighs 4.2kg and it has also been balanced.

And once I worked out how to use a clutch alignment tool I got it fitted :)

Engine is coming out next weekend!

The day started well

Got the car in the air

Removed the exhaust, manifold and air intake

Removed the bonnet

Hooked up the crane

And placed it in the garage

Which left this

Jobs for tomorrow, fit the gearbox to the new engine, Remove the wiring loom and fit the distributor to the new engine. And then just plonk it back in the engine bay... simple! :)

its a good feeling when you've got the engine dangling in the bay ready to be hooked out, i didnt have to remove the bonnet when i removed my lump, straight out the top. realy short loop of chain between the lifting eyes and it was fine.

This is true.. :)

Today wasn't as productive due to the weather but i did get a few things done.

Fitted the GT box to the engine

removed the AFH distributor

Removed the GT wiring loom

Which left a nice clear engine bay.

Some swift progress going on here!! hmmm carbs coming carbs coming :-D

Well I should get my manifold and carbs back next week.... humm didn't I say that last week?!?!?!? :)

To tide me over I gave the block a bit of a paint

I also quickly painted the new wheels. They will get properly done in the next couple of months

Picked up an alternator belt from halfords. HB680g if any one needs one :)

Also I have ordered my new manifold which should be with me next week.

I've taken the rest of the GT loom out of the car and that is already to be sold... so if anyone wants a GT engine conversion for a MK2 you know where to get one!!! :)

I've got all my old Mk2 stuff down from the loft ready to be put back in and thats pretty much it.

Might be putting the engine in this weekend. Or I might wait and get some new engine mounts from VW.. humm.. :)

Well the exhaust Manifold turned up this morning and if I haven't heard anything tomorrow I'll chase up the inlet manifold.

As for the flywheel bolts you need to use new ones. I think they were about a quid each from VW and you need 6 of them.

Some updates

Fuel pump, Filter regulator and oil catch tank.

Last week the exhaust manifold turned up... so here an picture of a nice shiny thing..

Also on sunday I decided that I would spray up the front slam panel

The wiring loom is fully in now and the interior is back in. Next step is to mount in the new fuel pump and filter and the oil catch tank. I have Thursday and Friday off work so these will hopefully get done then but I also have to replace the steering rack on the BM and get some new tyres for it.... more money!

Ohhh and ..

Next is to make up an accelerator cable bracket... any one made one???? any pictures?? :) also I think I have to wire in a choke. Any idea how this fits though the bulk head or is a new hole needed..

Any help on this would be great :)
