Featured Replies

Probably already been said but this is one of the best build threads I've read, just read it all from start to finish and I'm astounded, youve done an incredible job with it and as a result youve inspired me to start my own coupe s project, so no doubt il be reading parts of this again in the future, good luck with it all and keep us updated :-)

Ahhh shucks :) Cheers.. I was kinda hoping that it would be interesting to read and help other people out.

Some more updates.

Fitted the OE choke cable...

I have also found out that I don't need to make a bracket for the accelerator cable.. which makes me happy. I have just purchased a CBR600 accelerator cable off ebay.

Made up my gasket for the inlet manifold :)

Drew round the mani and cut it out

Added lipstick :)

And pushed the gasket to the face

Also test fitted the fuel pump and filter today :)

Well more power = more money. So at the moment its fine, it will be a good starting point. But you have to bear in mind that with 110bhp it will have the same if not a higher power to weight ratio than a S1 Elise :)

great thread dude, would love to do something like this at one stage

I think it should be around the 7 seconds mark... maybe.. :)

progress looks good dude,

i encountered the problem of the alternator when fitting the lupo engine, as it was without an alternator.

it had a plate like yours about 10mm thick, the third bolt is down the bottom to stop the rotational forces ripping the standard polo engine mount as it can only use the top two bolts. what confused me about mine at first was two lugs that came off the mount to mount an alternator, but there was some pikey adjusting mechanism made up which i cant seem to figure out if they used a lupo alternator or mk1 polo one for the conversion.

anyway lest i digress, I'm chopping those lugs off and going to use a mk3 polo engine mount with the rear notched so it sits flush with the plate, i might drill and tap the third hole into the plate although its not strictly necessary as youll have a third bolt lower down on the plate. the question i have anyway as its still an outstanding issue, is how you plan on adjusting the tension for the alternator. as i believe from memory that the early polo alternators tension from a bracket bolted to the side of the block. does the afh lump tension in the same way or will you have to tap the block to fit the adjusting bracket

sorry for a mad lenghty stoned rambling. tis probably that confusing so I'm not going to bother proof reading it haha, hopefully it does make sense

Does this help ? :)

I'm using the tensioner and engine mount from a Mk2 Polo. There is a thread on the side of the block to attach the Tensioner to :)

:-o This is epic! Amazed. Truely gob smacked.

legend. nice one, i might go down and have a play tomorrow with the old girl

looking good mate. cant wait to see another afh mk2 out there good work.

Made up the accelerator cable today. Its a mixture of a CBR600 one, the standard one and a MTB brake cable :)

Also fitted my oil catch tank.

100_1088.jpg

Finished putting in the rest of the wiring loom as well and just started to work out where all wires need to go on the engine.

Tomorrow the engine is going in!!! weather depending! :)

this looks amazing have to come to lemington spar and try and find it

this bloody rain

shame you can fit it today mate

when are you getting it back on the road

  • Author

The rain never stopped me before :) Want to get it running for Mid may as I have a few track days in June and I need some testing time.

The good wife and I put the engine in this morning :)

But... and its a big but..

100_1094.jpg

Soooooo options..

1) make brackets up for the bonnet and leave it like that

2) Cut the manifold down about half an inch and then make brackets up for the bonnet so it just sits half an inch up.

3) Send it back to Bogg Bothers so they can sort it out.

4) Power bulge in the bonnet

Hummmm I'll give them a ring on Tuesday and see what they say :)

good work! with the bonnet in that position is it resting on the top of the carbs?

option 2 seems the most attractive, you dont want to shorten the inlet tracts too much or be interfering with the bulk head if they can change the angle.

keep us posted mark, if you are interested, the PPS subframe i have will be available in about 2 weeks.

1 or 2 mate i love that look keep up the good work

Cheers :)

I should have put some voting buttons up :)

Yeah its sitting on the black plastic surround of the carbs. They are basically sitting vertically which is how they do on the bike. There is load of room between the cars and the bulk head. Basically its mainly down to the design of the manifold its a wide angle L shape coming off the head if the pipes where straight then it would be fine.

I'll give Bogg Brothers on Tuesday and see what they can do. I really don't want to change the appearance of the car.. I like it looking like a 20year old polo :)

Ohh and Pete yeah I'll be interested... :)

Here you can see how much it sticks up by..

And the amount of room behind the head
