First Post and straight in there!

I have downgraded somewhat in terms of cars due to a family addition going from a 2.8 Z3 to a 1.4 FSi MK6 Polo.

Clearly I want more from this little piddly thing for the time being so have been looking at the engine bay and making some plans.

My question is, can anyone tell me what the chuff I am supposed to do to bang an open filter on to one of these things.

Also, why did VW put a hole in the top of the manifold cover to take warm air from the exhaust area up into the air feed for the engine? That seems a tad silly to me since I have always known that cold air is best...
