put 99 in yesterday after seeing this, would never put tesco fuel in before only bp ult and tbf it does feel smoother, may just be because I'm thinking it though

High octane petrol in my diesel didn't seem to do much good at all

^^ I put petrol in the Golf a few weeks back, I only had cash so I was stuck but I did have a can of engine oil in the boot. Did some quick maths and figured it was enough, chucked it in to convert the contents of the tank to a special brew heavy oil, and it worked - ran okay, no adverse effects.

Getting the right mix of petrol and diesel makes diesels go like fuck haha

Ford Di engines are rated to run up up to 25% petrol in the diesel. Going back a few years, I used to run my van on what can only be described as multigrade* fuel all the time, and it was fine.

*Varying ratios of white diesel, red diesel, central heating oil, petrol, SVO, and whatever came out of scrap cars

People driving standard early Polos should realise their cars were running 91 octane when new. Their engines have low compression ratios and shouldn't see benefit in high octane fuel.

Thats true but my dads mate reckoned his son was saving £7 a week in his mk2 1l with a webber using Shell V power. So I gave it ago in my 1.3 mk2f. I put in £20 and did around 155 miles. last week I put in £20 of usual Shell and I've only got around 115 (opps turns out I've done around 150 to the same place) miles!

I once put just shy of 10 litres of unleaded in my old diesel metro but luckily had my card with me so just brimmed it with diesel.

Needless to say it smoked like a mofo when cold for about a week but after that was fine, didn't even notice a change in the power/economy

I kind of wish I had kept it and tried running it on some sort of veg oil but was unsure at the time if it would fuck the engine up or not? (was the 1.5 diesel engine same as the one that was in Pug 106's)

Most older diesels will run on pretty much anything, its even in some of thems hand books to add a bit of petrol to a tank every now and then to clean the fuel system out. Its best to change the fuel filter after mind cause iit can dislodge some nasty shit from the tank
