Central Locking Problem

I have a Y reg 1.4 3 door polo

The central locking has been playing up the last couple of days, when you put the key in the drivers door all you can do it lock the door but it wont open, when you try the passenger side it unlocks but when you turn the key back to take it out of the lock it locks again.

The central locking button inside the car on the door card is working sporadically (currently not)

I can pull the lock up so that I can get out of the car but I don't want to keep doing that as I don't know if it will cause any damage.

The other day the windows went down when the key was turned all the way around which i have read means the locks aren't completely broken and it could be a paddle in the door??

Any help is greatly appreciated this is driving me crazy!
