Hi,

Today I was driving and the EPC light came on and then went after 10min....

Fault scan revealed:

16490 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96): Implausible Signal

P0106 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

What steps should I take to check this out, and what would a faulty sensor result in - easy to change?

Is it on the timing side of the inlet manifold? Any pictures to direct me would be appreciated.

I also found this loose cable coming from under my battery, it's blanked off but I'm sure it should be attached somewhere does anyone know what it's for?

Lastly according to vagcom my throttle valve angle is 3.5% at idle - is this high or normal - I'm probs going to clean it when I locate the map sensor - what's the best chemical to clean it with? I will completely remove it

I have the same code keeps comming up with the EPC light, I've tried cleaning it with carb spray cleaner but it keeps comming back :-( a new one from VAG is around £95 :shock: So I'm considering taking a risk on a secondhand one from ebay around £30

As long as the throttle position is less than 5% the manual says take no action if it is then clean the throttle body and do a basic adaption afterwards

That connector could be for the fog light can't make out the wire colours to confirm this??

Wow that's one expensive sensor, what could go wrong if the sensor isn't replaced?

Did you clean the actual sensor or just the hole it goes into?

I will clean the throttle body so hopefully that will help my idle speed, what do you mean by adaptation - on vagcom? Wouldn't the ecu sort of adjust its self and new tb position after a little bit of driving?

It's not the fog light plugs, they are nicely tucked in behind the grill (checked to make sure) - its just a random plug I found coming from under the battery the numbers on the cable are: on top: PA66 and bottom 9805940. 2 cream coloured wires.

The plug is blanked off and has a little plastic bit that you can push into a whole to secure it - it's more that I'm curious as to what it is than anything else.

Another quick question does the polo 6n2 1.4mpi have the power steering pressure switch F88? My idle drops noticbly when turning the wheel - doesn't help and not sure what the problem can be :s

I removed the sensor and gave it a good spray as it was quite oily, but it keeps comming back with the same fault code :-(

Yes it's recommended to do the adaption proceedure with vagcom/vcds as shown on the Ross-tech.com site I've cleaned the throttle body before and never needed to do the proceedure, might of just been lucky?? but as your indicating 3.5% it's within the recommended limit, so you don't really need to do anything but it can't hurt :-) The 20 min drive is more to do a basic adaption of the ECU after a replacement.

I'll have a look through the diagrams and see if I can find what the plugs for?

That good so if I need to replace its not so bad, will clean and check first though.

So there is a pas pressure switch, where is it? I'm surprised the Haynes manual does not even mention it at all.... How do I check it with vagcom vcds lite? What module is it in?

EDIT: just read this about the pas pressure switch:

Cause:

Without the pressure switch F88 the power steering hose is adapted.

Models affected:

Polo

Service:

The power steering hose must be investigated as to whether it is attached with the pressure switch F88. If the steering hose isn't attached, adjust the power steering hose with the pressure switch F88 and add a 2 pin connector under the battery mounting. The subsequent hoses must be employed: LHD: Without air conditioning: Part No. 6N1 422 893 D With air conditioning: Part No. 6N1 422 893 ERHD: Without air conditioning: Part No. 6N2 422 893 DWith air conditioning: Part No. 6N2 422 893 E

As above it says 2 pin connector under the battery, so I unblanked to find that my mystery cable is the one that connects to this pressure switch f88 - problem is there is no pressure switch which I find a bit annoying :@ not sure what do do with that problem now... From my understanding I have to replace the whole pas hose with the one that has the switch integrated, sounds expensive.

What's your view on this?

The test procceedure is in that section I posted before "Checking Additional Signals" Engine control Unit 01, then "Read Measured Blocks" Then "Group 55" with no steering input it should show 0000 then when you turn the wheel it should go to 1000, if it doesn't you can do a continuity check on the switch open circuit with no sterring input then short circuit when you input the steering, if not replace the switch

Just had a quick look, unlike in that image mine only has 1 pipe on that clip and no sensor, as I said above that plug that is blacked off must be the pressure switch plug. I don't understand why this car doesn't have one :s

So I suppose I have to source a hos that has it built in? Very annoying

That picture might be for a LHD? The wiring to the pressure switch should be a White & White/Black wires.

2001 polo with the 1.4 AUD engine the wires might be white just very dirty maybe?

And according the VW diagrams and this Autodata one it should definately have the pressure switch

I followed the pipe from the pump to where it joins the rack I can't find it, this is what my hose looks like and in this ad the seller has said that there is no sensor in this pipe - the wiring is probably there (me thinks its that cable under the battery) so it maybe in the diagrams but maybe vw made them with and without the switch just like the fog lights, cable there but no fog lights

I'm baffled, I would rather your right and I can't find it as replacing a switch to fix my steering issue is much easier than living with it.

I apologise if what I'm saying is noobish but I'm new to this!

EDIT: having the switch doesn't necessarily mean you have the sensor does it? I.e this is a stupid example but you could have a reverse light switch but no reverse light bad example but I'm sure you catch my drift.

So I may have the switch but I'm lacking the end point sensor which would usually screw into the pas hose. So vw just blanked up the cable I have that leads to the switch and put in a simple high pressure pas piping with no sensor input.

It is stupid as to why they don't have the sensor compatible piping in all the polos. Pas is pas and will draw power from the engine - doesn't make sense maybe something else is broke lol

You should see me when I'm trying to park, very funny!

The part number for the switch is 6N0 919 081A £15 on ebay Sealing ring N0138115 but the pipe part number is vague to say the least

Is it easy to replace that part of the hose? I suppose I have to drain the steering fluid and such - as I'm not replacing everything the pump shouldn't run dry at any point should it?

You could try putting a link between the pins on that connector (if the wire colours are as previously said) and then try the steering and see if the engine rpm dips? if it doesn't then you know that's the problem

I'll have a look at mine in the morning, it's an Ibiza with the same engine as yours and see if there's a switch on mine

The wiring diagrams for my Ibiza with the AUD doesn't show the switch?? it only shows it if it has the 1.0l engine and that was the same on the 6N?? but I'll have a look in the morning

Ok checked and there is no switch on mine, and confirmed it with vcds, the revs do dip and you can see a small spike on the engine load if you use the vagscope

Hi everyone,I'm new at this forum :smile:

I'm driving Polo 6n2,44 kW,year of prod.2000.Engine code is AUD.

My car became nightmare for me.It's not runing fine and has lost some power.It has rough idle and many times when I'm driving and i press clutch to stop,rev drop to zero and it shuts down.Vag com says random cylinder misfire..So far i changed sparks,spaks plugs,coil pack,cleaned fuel injectors,changed oil,oil and air filters,removed and cleaned throttle body with carb sprey...and still problem with the power.Up to 2500 rpm the car is jumping,getting and loosing power,after 2500 rev the car is getting almost full power but still some missing.Yesterday EPC ligh came on,vag com says:

My friend has same car,took his working MAF sensor,put it in my car,cleared code with vag com,and after a minute, same thing.EPC light on,same vag com code,car misfirering and rough idle.And one more thing,sometimes when it has poor power,my brake is hard,almost like the engine is off.I searched for any leaking on intake manifold,hoses...all hoses and connections are good,including that servo part for brakes(dont know his nam for sure,that round object for soft brake :D ).Only thing left to do that I can think off is to remove manifold intake and check gasket and put new one,as i cant see any other air leakage,so maybe its there.

If you guys have any suggestions,please help.

Yes mate,it was bad timing,jumped off one tooth,check timing and tensioner.
