Well shes been in my ownership for around a year now and thought its about time to share the love

"TAL" is a '86 VW Polo CL bready 1.3 MH enigine that was totally standard when i received ownership of her apart from being in a somewhat dismantled state and needing much love :(

she had 3 owners prior to myself 2 of which were freinds one of these worked in a body shop which is where the 1st owner had brought her after damaging the side and consiquently sold it too

the 2 new owners appeared to do nothing with her expect some dodgy filler work and pull her apart and then snap a cam belt! :(

i bought her for quite a high price considering her condition but took a chance on the previous owners word that she had never seen a welder underneath, so rushed down to Derby with a flat bed to save her and bring her to her new home!

It turned out she had a new front panel and bonnet prob due to a collision rather than rot but was utterly solid underneath! my gamble had paid off :)

Now I'm not a man of money so the progress of sorting her out has been a slow and lengthy process and is very far from completion but i set about gettin her on the road ASAP! so new cam belt and two valves (inlet and outlet on 1 and 4 cylinders) whilst cleaning up the whole head

was shocked to discover the original head gasket from 86 which hadnt gone just needed the head off to fix the valves :(

full set of pads and shoes and disc's and 4 part worn tyres then she flew straight through her MOT!! happy days!

over the last year i must admit I've neglected the body work even made it worse playing at silly beggars with the help of another club member at a friends party recently who shall remain anonomus lol

also added a old skool style motormeter rev counter fitted to the centre spreak cover, then a week later sourced an original motormeter set of clocks with the rev counter! which is so typical lol so I've left them both in cos its different!

also added a centre console which fills the insides out nicely

and the last touch is a discreet little chin spoiler which ill let you guys guess what its off

FUTURE PLANS:

Well I've sourced some old Rocco wheels which are going on as soon as the pennies allow me to get some tyres

also playing around with the letters on a volkswagen badge making it say "MALKSWAGEN!"

then its on with the bike carbs!! already sourced some CBR600F carbs form fleabay for a tidy sum of £17;50 winner! they were quite messy

so stripped and cleaned them up i then set about having a manifold plate lazer cut and got some steel tubing sorted :)

then set about lining it all up and welding it, the fit went very well!!

she ran like a dream on idle! i was shocked! :0. just need to set the jets now and sort the fueling out with a regulator and were away :) i do have a youtube video of its 1st run if you search "phuriousstyles" you'll find both the 1st run after the cam belt fix and the 1st run on bike carbs! yey :)

next step is the body work then after that is sort the suspension out and maybe might need some brakes i shall keep you all updated.

Thanks Tim, not had chance to try her out on the road with the carbs yet was too scared of melting a piston with it running standard 600cc bike jets :0 lol but it certainly rev'd nicley with them on heres a link to the youtube vid of her 1st run

cheers still looks a shed mind (esp with the multicolored look which is now hiding all the bare bits of metal) lol yeah I've slowly started to notice there are many more with the chin on than i first thought :/ there goes the uniqueness bummer lol

Ok long over due update on TAL's progress :) sorted a few things out recently 1st up was the euro spec light with the deleted reverse lamp, i sourced this direct from german ebay as there was no scene tax on it there i didnt want a red reverse lamp so wired the old fitting up as a 2nd fog light which i quite like :)

i wasnt happy with no reverse lamp so slung an old spot lamp off the bumper and wired it up accordingly :)

so i trundled around for a while with me new lights and then the carb to manifold rubber flange decided to split on me :( as i already had most of the bits ready for the CBR600 carb conversion i didnt see the point in spending on a new flange when i could use that money for the few odds and sods i needed to get the CBR's running so the build started with a certain haste that being without a car kind of creates lol i had already welded the manifold, just needed to tap an outlet for the vac advance so to keep it simple i ran just one off number 1 inlet seems to work ok for now but I'm sure its gonna shorten the life of my vac diaphram with the constant pulses :( anyhow i needed a good base for my main jets so i trawled through the forum and settled on a 1.4mm main jet size seemed a good choice to prevent leaning out as id rather it was rich than lean so with the jets drilled and outlet tapped on went the carbs

all nice and snug :) next problem was the old inlet water heating pipes so i had a friend knock me up a nice 90' bend in 22mm copper water pipe works well for now until i source a GT thermostat housing :)

with that sorted it was onto the fueling issues i tried the T piece method 1st... it was crap over fueled all the time and was genrally rubbish lol so spoke to Phataz1 on here and he knocked me up a lovely blanking plate for the fuel pump! top job and great workmanship highly reccomend his services if anybody requires something simmilar!

with that done is was onto wiring in the kawazaki elctroinc bike pump i sourced from a bike breakers :) i ran it off a live from the igintion then to an old switch on the dash so it looks original :) and if i forget to turn it off it goes off with the key too lol i do plan on an inertia switch soon too for added safety as you cant beat safety after all!

so next step was to sort the throttle cable out i wasnt happy with a 1 inch pedal travel with either a on or a off the throttle response so i had a faff and came up with this solution :) i moved the hole in the bulk head and drilled the pedal half way down to create a much more standard pedal feel and response I'm very happy with the results :) has an almost factory throttle response now

well that was the carbs done and i have to say its smiles per mile now

next up is to sort out a GT cam shaft but the dreaded scene tax has taken hold of those for now :( so i shall have to wait until a reasonable priced one comes up for sale but i have sourced a nice G40 exhaust manifold and down pipe again from Phataz1! top geezer cant say thanks enough mate! you da man! just need to weld a step down to it to get it from 2.5 inches back to 2 at the max maybe even 1 3/4 even for optimal flow

i have another conundrum too as I'm such a cheap skate I'm trying to fit the standard air box off the cbr600 i got with the carbs :) problem is i have clearance issues with the bonnet, I'm thinkin seeing as my bonnet is already dinted beyond repair i might just go all out and fit a scooby bonnet scoop for 2 reasons 1 it will sort my clearance issue and 2 it will give me a direct feed of cold air into the carbs! hmmmmmm yummy! lol

well the mechanical bits aside I've also been busy sourcing new round things for my car it seems to have been a theme the last week or so lol 1st off was a nice hoon down to Brum to meet a lovely chap in his equally lovely mk2 loon! gotta say thanks to Vic for my 1st round things lol was so excited i fitted them there and then in the service station car park! lol heres a as i got there pic

and a few hours later after much nattering they were on lol was a five min job but had so much to chat about we got a little distracted lol

sticking to the wheel theme id been in talks with a nice chap from leeds who had put this round thing aside for me until we could meet that day finally arrived this week and i have more round things for my car! thanks man I'm in love with this! nothing less than an LX polo wheel from an 84 model! :)

my final touch of late has been a mascot for me mota :) a lovely little corgi friend for my dash lol might have to colour code it once i make a start on the body work which is my next plan to get her straight again... maybe minus the bonnet as i have daft plans for that lol

Cheers Simon , its Gambia red paint code LA3B with a hint of primer, black and obligatory rust! lol and the wheels are tarantulas off a mk1 golf, not everyones cuppa but i think they suit the old polo very well

ok small update, GT cam sourced and fitted! still need to time it up properly but with some faffin by ear got it running as good as i can and gotta say what a difference it makes to the top end! cant help but hit the red line now feels much more sprightly also sourced a leather GTI gear knob that complements my steering wheel a treat, and in the pipe line (currently with mr postman) i have sourced some ranger roof bars! yey been after some since i got the bready :) gotta say its coming along nicely now just some bumper mounted front fogs and I'm outta ideas for OEM stuff i can fit lol

i must say this i have been seeing u do this on fb on mk1-mk3 polo lovely car great mods would love to meet up in the future and get some pics mines the same colour :) keep up the awesome work glad to see another polo being saved
