Wasn't looking for a Corrado specifically, I was looking to replace the Polo - with another Polo but a Corrado came up for sale on eBay around 10 miles from me and I went to view and subsequently made an offer and bought the car! It was owned by a lad since July of this year, he couldn't afford to put any money into it and his dad wanted the garage back. Previous to that it was used daily for 3 and a half years by another owner. The MOT lapsed mid July and I took ownership of it at the end of August.

It's pretty clean and solid on the exterior, no rust or rot from what I can see - which makes a change to Polo's of this era! Interior-wise, it needs trim and I could do with a new drivers seat, or, a new interior but i'll see how I feel once Tuesday has been and gone. Engine seems fine - the idle screw on the throttle body was wound fully in and was idling around 500RPM, I adjusted to around 900RPM - is this the correct procedure or should I have adjusted it a different way?

The Corrado is fairly standard bar an uprated headlight loom. The backbox is from an Audi apparently. Can anyone confirm if a Scirocco backbox will be a direct replacement?

I took it for an MOT last Tuesday, I spent the Sunday previous to that checking the electrics and replaced 1 sidelight bulb. Brake discs had surface rust on from being parked up so a few handbrake pulls at 30mph soon sorted that out. I called the MOT place up on my lunch hour and to my surprise it had passed! I was mega chuffed. 1 advisory on a tyre - my risk had paid off.

It's on my driveway currently, waiting to sell the Polo then i'll tax her.

Swapping the seats for black ones, going to collect at the weekend. Black doorcards and carpets will follow in due course.

Get the locking wheel nuts removed as myself and the previous owner who had it up until July had lost it.

Looking to get one of these my self soon, how does it fair up to the polo.

I've only driven it to the MOT centre and then back home taking it carefully so can't comment on performance. MPG wise, it was averaging about 35mpg and increasing!

Interior is similar (same mounts for front seats) dashbaord switches and steering wheel are basically the same as well. A lot heavier but solid. Handles better too. Nice to have elec windows, elec spoiler. mirrors, pas and adjustable steering wheel height too!

I'm looking at the 2.0 16v and the 1.8 16v but really want a vr6.

Just need to shift my polo tdi.

I read a few things that the 2litre wasn't quicker than the 1.8. In fact some people swear its slower. Power delivery, extra weight etc means the 1.8 is the one you want.

Don't quote me on this but I think the 2.0 8v and 1.8 16v are both 136bhp... Extra weight in the 2.0 perhaps?

I'd assume the 2l 8v would be 115bhp, the 1.8 16v 137bhp or whatever, an the 2l 16v 150bhp, same as the golfs I'd have thought. And I don't think they really weigh all that more than the polo, being a mk2golf underneath. Think the book weight for my Jetta is 60kg more than my mk2f, or so my dad told me

And why whould they make the 2l 16v slower than a mk3golf with the same engine? Been as they were being made at the same time id have though it would equal.

edit- looks like they just bored out the block and used the same head/injection ect. ect. To make up for the restriction of CATs being introduced.

Though peepz with 1.8 16v golfs are always switching to 2l bottom end for more power and torque...

And I'm going to look into the book weight s right now

Sebrings may well be for sale soon, need to find some suitable 16's and tyres.

Polo is sold (deposit taken) so the Corrado will be taxed & insured on Friday!

Sold my Polo this week and taxed & insured the Corrado today.

Went for a quick spin before dinner and took a few snaps. Can't believe how planted you feel on the road, makes a nice change from a mk3 Polo! (Will always have a soft spot for mk3's)

Got a misfire when booting it in 2nd/3rd it feels like it's holding back; a bit jerky - think it's from being stood up since the beginning of September and getting a bit damp etc. Will probably get new cap & rotor arm over the weekend and also I think old fuel isn't helping either!

Hoping to clean up my black seats over the weekend and collecting my new black doorcards this eve from work!

I had/still have a few raddos over the years, This whole 2.0 is slower then 1.8 because its heavier. Not sure there is any truth in that on the road. Irrelevant of numbers.

2.0 just has the edge on that mid range pull.

But both as good as each other, near enough makes no difference without a G! :)

Quick update

Fitted new leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and a replacement dizzy as the hall sender wires broke last week when I was changing the cap last weekend. Result is that she purrs lovely!

Chucked on 16x6.5" BBS RX2's just before xmas in an attempt to eliminate what I thought was tyre rumble on my Sebrings. The noise is still there! madness, sounds like it is coming from the rear however I had new bearings fitted in November. Will have to investigate more.

And I now have a fully working MFA!

could be cheap tyres making the noise. that or the mechanic who did the rear bearings didn't make much of a job of them

I think you may be right there Jon although I took it back to him when the noise appeared and we put it on his ramps and span all 4 wheels and there was no movement whatsoever... Could have a knackered bearing perhaps?

did you take it to the same mechanic that said the wheel bearing were fine on the polo!? if so you might wanna check the are done up correctly. the rears are a doddle to do.

My old rado ha the same problem, turned out the noise was from the front drivers side wheel bearing and the noise was transferring , the wheel had no play in it but the bearing inside had got dry. With some good tyres and a decent gas shock setup these handle amazing and v controllable if the the back steps out.
