For those that are so inclined, it's getting near to winter tyre switch over temps.

For those not interested in such things... be sure to leave just a little more margin for error with your daily driving, as grip levels will be dropped as tyres aren't reaching full operating temps :)

It's freezing where I am too! Can definitely tell it's coming into winter! My fear is driving in the snow, twice it has snowed here for a long period of time and my car hasn't been touched.. Might invest in winter tyres and brave it this year :P

Winter tyres will make no difference on ice or snow really. If it's icy nothing's gunna grip. Depending how much snow there is depends on grip levels anyway. But as u drive over fresh snow u have more grip with normal tyres than if it's been driven over a few times. Winter tyres just have the most horrific tread pattern giving a terrible ride and some really bad road noise. I would rather buy some sheep steels with normal tyres for winter. Save your safe money

felt quite mild this morning but I lost traction on a bend heading to work. Might just be the switch back to a small light hatch and learning the cars abilites.

Yes you're right in the ice nothing is really going to improve grip levels but in snow, winter tyres on the driven wheels does make life easier.

They are usually made of a much softer compound so in frozen conditions where normal tyres freeze solid, winter tyres will still flex.

I'm not saying they will make it feel like you're driving in nice dry conditions, far from it. But for tasks like getting up hills, pulling out of junctions etc, having winter tyres will make a difference.
