I'm Chris, 17 just starting out. I just bought my first of many Polo's. Its a 6n2 1.0 (e) in reflex silver. It is a 5 door.. :/ but it had reasonably low mileage and a free cambelt change thrown in so a bit of a bargain. I've never modded a car before so this is a bit of an experiment for me... Anywayy

This is the car as I bought it,

I'm planning several bits and pieces but moneys real tight at the moment,

Body code bump strips

Gti Grilles/Fogs

new headunit/speakers

aero wipers

angel eye projectors

coilovers

bbs rx2 alloys

and a good clean and wax coat.

Any ideas, suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

Being a bit nosey, have you asked your insurance how much your premiums will increase by when these mods are completed??

And another for everyone looking really; who's the best insurance company to be with?? Churchill are a wee bit expensive at the moment...

Of course he hasn't, don't be so silly

A shock is what you are in for. Those mods (mostly the wheels and coilovers) will have to wait for a few years unless you want your premiums to skyrocket.

Well surprisingly I rang my insurance company Churchill today, and to my absolute shock my premium will increase by a massive £80 once my mods are done...

Admittedly, one of those mods is a Clifford Alarm system which she said cancels out everything bar my tints and lights, so wanting central locking has done me some good

Are you suggesting... That if I fit central locking it might cancel out my 40MM lowering springs and 16" 9N3 GTI alloys? 8)

What security system are you having fitted exactly, and how much of a job is it?

*edit* Do you mean that you have central locking but want to fit remote central locking? I dont have central locking at all

Well i'm paying £1500 for the insurance with the car basically stock, they also said that fitting central locking and an alarm system will reduce the premium and i wanted central locking anyway so i'm gonna give that a go next week i think.

The Alarm System I'm looking at is apparently the best of the best, according to my dad's mate who is a mechanic, he's got one on his R34, and a couple of lads at Halfords. It's the Clifford Avant Guard 5.5. He said it was about £500, and it protects your bonnet, boot and doors from being broken into.

The one on his R34 is the best version I believe, as it has the remote start, so he can go to the window in the winter mornings, click a button and the car starts, which I think would be nice on my 9N, but unless it comes standard which I don't think it does, I'm not really that fussed, I can start the car with a key.

In terms of how long it'll take, my dad's mate said it took him about 3 hours on his R34, but now he's done it to more than one car now he reckons he could have it done in roughly half the time.

It's nice having a mechanic friend, not only did he say he'd doing it for free, but he also said I can use his garage to do my mods on a Sunday when I've got them all ready with him giving me a hand if needs-be. Saweeeet!
